Models Own Magpie Speckled Eggs - Imagination In Colour

Models Own Magpie Speckled Eggs

Hello lovelies! Hope you’re well. I have some great news – I’m about to start a new job tomorrow morning! A real Monday to Friday, 37.5hr week… I was beginning to think they didn’t exist! It’s going to be such an amazing change from my previous work, which was anything up to 17hrs a day – I even did a few 20hr days when management meetings overran… a LOT! My longest week there clocked up just over 90hrs which pretty much killed me lol.

Anyway, onto the polish. I was lucky enough to win all five of the Models Own Speckled Eggs Collection in an Instagram giveaway they did last week, which was soooo exciting! I can’t afford to buy nail varnish at the moment but I was dying to try these, so it really was a lovely surprise. I decided to try my favourite first: Magpie. I’m a bit of a bird lover so these instantly had me hooked – a name will really sell me on a product! Illamasqua released a set of 5 speckled polishes last Spring under the I’mperfection Collection, which I thought were very muted, which I personally don’t like… the Models Own versions are much more vibrant and pastelly which is perfect in my eyes!

Models Own Magpie Speckled Eggs (3)Magpie is the perfect minty green crelly shade, filled with matte black hexagonal glitter in three sizes. It really does give a lovely speckeldy effect, and puts me in mind of easter and springtime… most specifically Mini Eggs! I don’t know if it’s a happy coincidence or deliberate, but magpie eggs are slightly greenish (not as much as the polish!), and this is pleasing to me!

Application:

Magpie is opaque at 2 coats, which is good for a glitter because they can get chunky with too many layers. The glitter density is fantastic, you won’t have any plain mint patches! It’s a bit on the thick side, which can cause some dragging, but as long as you’re careful and leave enough time between coats, it’s fine. It dries a little slowly, but this is easily fixed with a quick dry topcoat. As a sidenote, the polish didn’t seem to gel too happily with my topcoat (Ciaté Speed Dry) so I’d use a different one if I were you. Nothing major but it made the polish more bumpy, if anything, and made it look slightly crinkly up close! These polishes require a bit of elbow grease for removal as they are packed with glitter!!

I can honestly live with application quirks for a pretty polish, and this one is totally worth it, for me anyway. I think this might just be one of my top Spring favourites this year! I do always love a nice bright mint so this is perfect.

The Models Own Speckled Eggs polishes retail at £5 each and are available currently at the Models Own Bottleshops, and on their website, and they will be available in Boots from 19th March I believe. Models Own are currently running a promotion where you can buy 6 for £20 online, so you could actually buy all five Speckled Eggs and still have room for one more, for the price of just four! Bargain if you ask me!
