Barry M Silver Multi Glitter

Here is another of the five new Barry M glitters (Magenta, Aqua, Gold, Pink Silver and Silver Multi Glitter). This one is really interesting and very unique, for me anyway.

Barry M Silver Multi Glitter multicolored multicoloured pink blue yellow silver microglitter dense foil nail paint close up Silver Multi Glitter is essentially a multitude of different coloured microglitter crammed into a clear base. I can see blue, pink, yellow, silver… possibly more! What’s really interesting is that despite the multicoloured nature of the polish, it looks like a dull silver glitter from afar; you can only really see the different colours when you look closely. I feel like this is the new Barry M Silver Cascade (rumored to be a dupe of OPI Mad As A Hatter), which is now discontinued – Silver Cascade had larger glitter with more red, green and blue, while Silver Multi Glitter is more along the pastel theme.

Application:

The photos all show 3 coats. The polish was almost foil-esque in that it was too dense at one coat to be used as a topcoat, but still required 3 coats for full opacity. The polish dried quickly, as with most glitters, and dried to the usual grainy texture. I feel that you would need 1-2 coats of topcoat to smooth it out, depending on what topcoat you are using. Removal wasn’t as laborious as with most glitters – it still took some soaking and scrubbing but not quite as much as usual.

What do you think of this one? I really wish the multicoloured aspect of this glitter was more visible in person, as in the close-up, it’s gorgeous when you really look hard, but the trouble is that you have to look really hard to be able to see it. For me it’s worth it because I tend to stare at my nails all day long anyway!

Silver Multi Glitter is available in Boots at £2.99. I haven’t personally seen it in Superdrug yet but it may well be in by the time you read this!

Barry M Aqua Glitter

This is a rather exciting post as it’s my first post with my new Canon 600D! It’s an amazing camera, I am VERY happy with it! 😀

Aside from my camera being new, Barry M have brought out 5 new glitter polishes in Magenta (Superdrug exclusive), Aqua, Gold, Silver Multi and Pink Silver glitter. I just had to buy all of them…

Barry M Aqua Glitter new festival turquoise blue microglitter hexagonal mermaid fish tail topcoat close up I love love love this polish, I think my favourite finish is at 2 coats though. It also looks amazing as a topcoat – as you can see in the first photo, it’s sparse enough to make a great topcoat then somewhere between 1-2 coats it gets a huge amount of density, lol. The polish has two sizes of glitter – the very aqua-blue microglitter, and the small hexagonal glitter is slightly more pure blue. I love how the two sizes give the glitter a wonderful textured look, it reminds me of mermaids and sea creatures!

Application:

Aqua Glitter is virtually opaque at 3 coats… the photos all show 4 coats to keep them consistent. As with most glitters, the polish dried very quickly. If you aren’t a fan of the grainy finish of most glitters, you will want to use a topcoat, possibly two coats of it, to make it smooth. Removal was average for a glitter – at 4 coats it was very stubborn but not so bad at 2 coats.

As Linzi pointed out on Facebook, this polish is practically identical to Nails Inc. Fitzroy Square – but £8 cheaper! Even down to the glitter sizes. This for me is a very good thing, as there’s no way I can afford £11 per bottle for Nails Inc.

What do you think of this one? I absolutely love it, I feel some mermaid’s tail nail art coming on! I love that Barry M are really getting their teeth into nail polish these days, and really pushing forwards in the UK polish market.

Keep an eye out for the new glitters on here, Silver Multi Glitter is up next!

Marks and Spencer Cappuccino + OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air layered

Hello lovelies. I’ve come to realise that my blog has pretty much been a reviewing spot for all things nail polish, which is totally fine, but occasionally I like to change up a manicure before I take it off – either through lack of time or lack of motivation. It’s very easy to just slather on a layer of glitter to make it look like a whole new set of nails. This post will show you my most recent venture into the jazzing-up of a day-old manicure.

It’s nice to change things up, believe it or not blogging about the application and how many coats of polish I’m wearing and resizing photos and painstakingly trying to take colour-accurate, good quality photos gets to be one of those things that feels more like a chore than a hobby, and lately I have been so fed up with doing the same things every day so maybe this is just another little thing I need to alter in my daily routine. So you may yet see more ‘old’ manicures with a little inspiration added. There’s blurriness, and the dryness of my cuticles, but hey ho!

🙂

This is one coat of OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air over 2 coats of Marks and Spencer Cappuccino.

What do you think? Do you like to change a manicure with glitter so as to avoid the time and effort of completely re-doing them?

Revlon Sparkling

Is it just me or have all the cosmetics companies gone into overdrive where nail polish is concerned? I was way overexcited about Revlon’s 80th Anniversary collection, then suddenly there are so many new polishes about my bank account has run dry and I’ve only dipped a toe into the wonderful colourful world of new polish!

Today we have Sparkling, a VERY beautiful pink glitter topcoat. This one is another Deborah Lippmann dupe from Revlon, much like Revlon Facets of Fuchsia was a dupe of ‘Bad Romance’, Sparkling is a dupe (or very similar to) Deborah Lippmann Some Enchanted Evening (picture from Scrangie).

Is it a true dupe? Judikins from Judixo has posted a wonderful comparison of Deborah Lippmann Some Enchanted Evening and Revlon Sparkling – I’ll leave you to decide for yourselves whether it is close enough to be called a dupe, I think it is so my lemming is satisfied!

Revlon Sparkling Anniversary Collection Spring Summer 2012 Deborah Lippmann Some Enchanted Evening Essie A Cut Above Dupe Pink Glitter topcoat hexagons holographic layeredSparkling is a gorgeous soft salmony-pink glitter topcoat, consisting of large pink hexagonal glitter pieces and many smaller pink hexagonal glitter pieces. The polish also flashed holographic under false lighting but I can’t place where that comes from, lol! It’s very very pretty though. It gives a very flattering pink-tone to your nails, and makes your fingers look more tanned than they are! (What more could you want, lol).

Application:

Like most glitters, Sparkling dried quickly. This allowed me to apply 4 coats (as seen in the final 4 photos) to get it to a semi-opaque finish. It’s one of those polishes that probably wouldn’t make it to a totally opaque finish without about 10 coats so I thought I’d leave it at 4 – my nail line and much of my nail was visible through the polish, though it’s one of those glitters that’s so reflective the nail beneath is hidden. It’s very much destined to be a topcoat. Speaking of which, the finish of Sparkling was very smooth, I can only presume because of the ratio of clear polish to glitter, but it’s definitely of a lovely quality. I don’t think you will need a topcoat for this one.

EDIT: The lovely Melana pointed out I didn’t mention removal – at 1-2 coats Sparkling was quite easy to remove, only a little scrubbing required, while at 3-4 coats it was about average glitter removal (i.e. lots of soaking & scrubbing needed!)

What do you think of this? I’m so glad to have bought it, it’s so very dainty and pretty and just adds that bit of pizzazz to your average manicure. I think it will look gorgeous over black.

Sorry for not posting more Barry M nail paints – I had one of those moments where you get a bit enthusiastic with the nail file and my nails are no more – I just can’t think that my stubby little nubbins will do the new polishes justice so I’ve resorted to my backlog of photos… hope you don’t mind!!

Easter Egg Nail Art

Last Easter I did mini egg nail art, so this year I was casting around for more inspiration. You know when you get the cute little chocolate eggs in coloured foil? That’s what inspired me this time. My camera seemed to be playing up a little, the second photo is a bit blurry (sorry!).

These were done with sellotape (lots of it!) for the straight lines and many many polishes…! Here’s what I used:

Hope you like them! What did you adorn your nails with this Easter? Link me up if you have any pictures/blogposts on Easter manicures!
