When I was about 12, I had this lovely T-shirt from Jane Norman which was turquoise, with brown writing and a brown halterneck underneath-top-thing, and some lovely glittery bits and a brown palm tree. I adored this T-shirt because, as many UK ladies may know, Jane Norman was pretty expensive (at least to little 12 year old me!). Anyways, one of the things I always remembered about the T-shirt was how good turquoise and brown looked together. Which is what inspired this manicure. I’ll stop waffling now!
What I used:
- Barry M Chocolate Brown (discontinued – still available on eBay though!)
- Barry M Teal
- Barry M Aqua Glitter
- Barry M Gold Glitter
- Make up sponge (only a cheap one, mine came as a 20 pack for £1!)
- Paint 2 coats of Barry M Chocolate Brown.
- Paint the edge (about 1-2cm) of your make up sponge with a layer of Barry M Teal.
- Dab the sponge onto the top 2/3rds of your nail – don’t worry if it looks messy or patchy – and repeat this for each nail. Wait til this is dry.
- Once dry, repeat the process with Barry M Teal – you want a solid base colour for the glitter to sit upon. By this time, it should look like you’ve dipped the top 2/3rds of your nails in liquid turquoise.
- Taking a new corner of the sponge, paint the edge (about 1-2cm) with a layer of Barry M Aqua Glitter – this needs to be fairly thick as the glitter can be sparse.
- Dab the sponge onto the turquoise base, and repeat this for each nail. Wait til this is dry.
- Using the same corner, paint the edge (about 1-2cm) with a layer of Barry M Gold Glitter. Again this needs to be a fairly thick layer.
- Dab the sponge onto the turquoise glittery base, and repeat this for each nail. Wait til this is dry.
- Again using the same corner, paint the edge (about 1-2cm) with a layer of Barry M Aqua Glitter. Again this needs to be a fairly thick layer.
- Once more dab the sponge onto the turquoise glittery base, and repeat this for each nail. Wait til this is dry.
- Finish with a slick of topcoat, and you’re done!
Sorry to lay it out so wordily, I can’t work out whether or not that explains it well enough (I’d much rather do a video but I don’t have a big enough memory card yet!), if you can’t work it out then leave a comment and I’ll try to help! Alternatively there are many gradient tutorials on YouTube.
Hope you like it!
