Barry M Kingsland Road – Textured Nail Effects

Here is the second of the four new Textured Nail Effects polishes being released by Barry M: Ridley Road, Kingsland Road, Atlantic Road and Station Road, as part of the Spring 2013 release.

Kingsland Road is a really very pretty light baby pink. I think it looks very similar in tone to Strawberry Ice Cream by Barry M from the Ice Cream Collection. The added texture makes a really interesting extra dimension to the colour.

In others it can take on a much more stark pink tone, usually when my hands are pink from the cold, but it’s still very nice. The matte-textured finish is quite attractive in this colour, though I did notice that the pink pigment seemed to be missing from around the cuticles – it was a lot paler at the edges. Like Ridley Road, the textured finish did seem to grab bits of lint and such, and I also found the colour was easily stained by things like eyeshadow or mascara (don’t ask how these got onto my nails!) which was quite hard to get off, if at all. As somebody pointed out on a Facebook page I’m part of, these textured polishes resemble Swizzels Matlow Rainbow Drops, which is so spot on! Especially with the pastel shades.

Application:

Kingsland Road applies well – it’s opaque at 3 coats and isn’t streaky. However like Ridley Road, it is a little tricky to control the flow of the polish due to the density of the granules. Both polishes cling to your skin like crazy so try to cleanup as much as you can while they’re still wet. The finish is obviously quite bumpy and rough – as many have said before it feels like the surface of a nail file, or like a mini version of a breeze block. In terms of removal, this is somewhere between a shimmer and a dense glitter in terms of difficulty to remove. If you soak your nails in polish remover for 30-40 seconds it will wipe off quite easily.

How do you feel about the texture polishes? Is Kingsland Road one you’ll be getting?
