Barry M Atlantic Road

Here is the third of the four new Textured Nail Effects polishes being released by Barry M: Ridley Road, Kingsland Road, Atlantic Road and Station Road, as part of the Spring 2013 release.

Atlantic Road is a pure sky blue colour, with of course the addition of the grainy, sand-like texture. It’s much like Barry M’s Blueberry Ice Cream in colour. This one is very pretty and I think it really suits the textured finish, while the others I haven’t been quite so sold on!

This is probably my favourite Textured Effects polish so far. You may notice that it looks a little uneven on my middle fingernail, but I can assure you that that was my fault – I have a weak nail there and a corner of the top layer peeled off, taking the polish with it, so I had to do a little touchup! That being said, it’s important to note that touchups with this polish often look messier than the chip!  Like Ridley Road and Kingsland Road, the textured finish did seem to grab bits of lint and dirt, which were all but impossible to get off.

Application:

Atlantic Road is opaque at 2 coats and applies fairly smoothly, though, as with the other Textured Effects nail paints, I have found it quite hard to control where the polish goes. With this in mind, try to do your cleanup as quickly as possible as the polish really sticks to your skin a lot harder than any other polish I’ve experienced. The finish is quite matte-ified and is also bumpy and rough, quite like if you were to run your finger over an acrylic nail file. I tried putting topcoat over Atlantic Road – the topcoat pulled a lot of the pigment from the nail, leaving it looking more sheer but also making it look a lot like water. I should have taken a picture really! In terms of removal, the polish comes off fairly easily – a bit harder than a shimmer, and a bit easier than a glitter. The foil effect should work nicely with this although you won’t need half as much time as you would for a glitter.

What do you think of Atlantic Road? Will you be picking it up? This one’s definitely my pick of the bunch!
