Here I have ‘Blueberry Gelly Nail Paint 5’, one of the brand new Barry M Gelly Nail Paints due to be released on 26th September in Superdrug. The cost is £3.99 each.
I wanted to quickly point something out – the ‘Gelly’ title refers to the fact that the polishes have a ‘gel-effect‘ (think gel nails – Shellac, Axxium etc) in that they have a high gloss and they are very opaque – as opposed to being ‘jellies’ (glossy but sheer nail polish).
Also, for reference, the penultimate photo in this post shows accurately how glossy this polish is!
See the glossiness?! As if Barry M didn’t do glossy enough polishes already! You won’t be disappointed by this polish. The closest I can think of in terms of colour is Orly Snowcone, for reference. It’s a perfect opaque cornflower blue creme. The obvious change with these Gelly Nail Paints is in the packaging – the bottles now have silver writing on them and a silver cap, as well as the ‘Gelly Hi-Shine’ title on the front.
Application:
The polish was almost completely opaque at 1 coat – I think you can get away with 1 thick coat/2 thin coats. The photos show 2. The polish dried quickly. And of course it was incredibly shiny, so you will only need a topcoat if you want it to last longer. The formula was that of a ‘crelly‘ – a jelly which is opaque enough that it looks like a creme but has a glossy finish. Think Essie Lapis of Luxury but more opaque. Blueberry applies very evenly – I’ve included a photo below of what the polish looks like at 1 coat:
Near perfect!
What do you think? Will you be getting any of the Gelly Nail Paints? The line consists of 9 colours: Plum, Blackberry, Watermelon, Blood Orange, Blueberry, Prickly Pear, Satsuma, Grapefruit and Pomegranate. You know me, I will somehow end up buying all of them, I can’t resist Barry M!
