Rainbow Nail Art

Day 9 of the 30 Days of Untrieds Challenge: rainbow nails. Something I’ve always wanted to try! I racked my brains for this one, trying to work out what the best way of doing it would be but my mind was drawing blank, so I just went ahead with a simple gradient.

What I used:

  • Boots 17 Risky Red
  • Missguided Misstaken
  • Barry M Yellow
  • Barry M Spring Green
  • Barry M Cyan Blue
  • Barry M Indigo
  • Barry M All in One Topcoat
  • Make up sponge

(These polishes were largely what was left on my desk from the Abstract Nail Art – is that lazy?)

How I did it:

First I sponged on a layer of red to my bare (with basecoat) nail using a makeup sponge – not such a wise move, but impulse made me do it – in future I would paint it as normal! I then sponged on two layers of each subsequent polish colour, until I had the finished look. The reason I did two layers per polish was to ensure they showed up well. You could also acheive this effect by painting the rainbow onto the sponge then sponging it directly onto the nail. Be warned: sponging is messy, you will need to clean up after this! I finished with 1 coat of topcoat.

What do you think? It turned out better than I thought it would, and I quite enjoyed the repetitive nature of the process, it was quite therapeutic!
