Wiki’d Nails Challenge: Tattoo Nail Art

Hey everyone! So you may have noticed lately that I’ve been posting a lot of press sample-based reviews – mainly because I’ve been inundated and the whole process takes quite a while so when I finally finish one, I don’t necessarily want to jump in and write another post ‘for myself’ if that makes sense. But of course that’s ended up that I haven’t done many ‘myself’ posts lately, so I’ve jumped onto a challenge run by my wonderful friendx Charlie (of Pocket Money Polishes) and Lisa (of Starfish Nails). Unfortunately I am already nearly 2 weeks late – oops – but better late than never I suppose!

This challenge is called the ‘Wiki’d Nails Challenge’, where basically the theme is randomly chosen from Wikipedia. Each week, you have to create some nail art based around the theme of that week. So this week is tattoos – a subject I think about endlessly so tattoo nail art was a great starting point for me!

I don’t actually have any tattoos myself (mainly due to my indecisiveness) but I am forever planning what I think I’d like in the future. This week, I based my nail look on one of my favourite styles – black linework. If you want to check out an artist I really like, look at ‘DotstoLines‘ by Chaim Machlev – his work was on Buzzfeed a while ago and it’s pretty cool! Anyway – enough waffling…!

Barry M Sugar Plum Gelly

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a good week. I am getting so behind with posts it’s unreal, lol. Barry M sent me a brand new Gelly addition to review (along with the new Summer Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paints) – yup, only one Summer Gelly this time! It’s a pretty one though 🙂

In case you have somehow missed the Gelly range (where have you been? Under a rock?! 😉 ) they are ‘gel-effect’ nail paints, which dry super glossy and to a gel-style finish.

Birchbox UK May 2015

Hi everyone! Last week I was kindly sent the Birchbox UK May 2015 box to review for you, as it has a nail-related item inside 😀

It’s been a while since I subscribed to a beauty subscription box – my last two I ended in 2012, so I was pretty excited to open this box up!

The theme of the box is “Free Your Mind”. I was very happy to find that the box is white with patterns filled in, which allows you to colour the box exactly how you like! If you follow my Instagram, you will know I am a big fan of doodling and drawing… that alone has me sold on the box 🙂

In case you prefer not to know the contents of the box I have put all the pictures beyond the ‘read more’ button – if you’ve come direct don’t scroll below the 2nd photo 😉

Barry M Speedy Collection Summer 2015 – Swatches Review & Comparisons

Hello all! Barry M have kindly sent me a huuuuge review package, so I have another Barry M collection to show you today. This is the next instalment of the Speedy Quick Dry range – if you remember the Speedy collection that they released back in February, these are they! This time there’s 6 polishes in the collection. I’m sure I said somewhere recently that I was hoping Barry M would bring out some more shimmers or glitters after the huge amount of cremes lately, and they have delivered! 3 of the 6 polishes are shimmers, which makes me very happy 🙂

The Speedy Nail Paints all have the new wide brush that Barry M have started using, which is great! I’ve put a picture of that further on in the post.

The six colours in this collection are a little unusual together, but they are all very pretty. I’ve included comparisons with each of them 🙂 So it will be a long post – grab a cuppa as always! 🙂

Barry M Sunset Daylight Curing Collection – Swatches & Review

Hello everyone! Eeeek – it’s been three whole weeks since my last post! I’ve obviously now broken my new year goal of posting at least once a week… oops! I’ve just started a new job temping, which always takes a little time to adjust to the new routine, especially as I’ve been working from home for 8 months and unemployed for a further month, lol. So that’s why I’ve been slacking on the blog front! In this time I have been very kindly sent the new Barry M Sunset Daylight Curing collection to swatch and review for you all, so today I am doing just that.

What are Daylight Curing nail paints? Barry M say they are “professional nails without the lamp”. So in theory they’re somewhere between normal nail polish and a UV soak-off gel system.  The nail polish cures in daylight (and artificial light too, actually) and you remove it with normal nail polish remover, so in many ways it seems just like normal nail polish. The finish is somewhat like a gel polish though, and they are supposed to last up to 10 days. More on that later. There seems to be quite a trend for these ‘no UV’ nail polishes around at the moment!

FYI – these all have the new Barry M brush which is flat and rounded – I’ve put a picture below and you can also see it compared with the ‘old’ Barry M brush on this post.
