No.7 Damson Dream 105 Stay Perfect Nail Colour.

Another Β£5 off No.7 purchase! Damson Dream, aptly named for once, is a very rich purple colour with pink shimmer. In the bottle this appears to have an orange shimmer laced in but this wasn’t present on the nail. It really does look damson-esque though, that lovely deep purple colour. These colours always used to be my favourite, I had a similar one named Aubergine by M&S; a few years back but it dried out πŸ™
This is opaque-ish in 2 coats but what you are seeing is 3, I did a third for good measure. It’s a funny formula really, I found it getting quite gloopy as I applied it, and it dragged a little in some places. Dry time was good for the first coat, but after that it was a little “Barry M-ish” in that it dented easily and didn’t fully dry for a long while. I only wore this for a day (admittedly without topcoat) but already you can see the tipwear, particularly on my thumbnail. I am forced to dispute the “Stay Perfect” labelling!

I would’t say this was a unique colour and while it is beautiful, I would not pay full price for it as I just don’t feel it deserves to be Β£7 (I paid Β£2). When I buy any polish over Β£5 I at least expect it to have a reasonably good formulation, since all the cheaper brands do! Sad day for No.7 πŸ™ Oh well there are more No.7 polishes to come!

And since the Β£5-off vouchers are coming back (again!) I still may end up buying more – I have my eye on Pink Grapefruit.

No.7 + GOSH

I have no idea what compelled me to put the two together but here you go:

It looks okay in this picture but irl it looked rly bad. Well I think it was just the contrast of the red against the very very pale holographic that made it look even more pale. My mum thought it was a fungal infection from a distance.
Anywho, I liked it at the time so there we go πŸ™‚ I used No.7 in Salsa 93 for the red (I’ve heard from Lina-Elvira’s blogpost that it is a dupe of Nails Inc. Aspen) and GOSH Holographic for the holographic ring finger (yes I caved… they were selling for half price in Superdrug! I think they still are…).
No.7 Salsa was mostly easily to apply although I found that if I was a little too slothful – can you believe that’s a word?! – in my application then it begun to drag a little, but otherwise it was good. First coat dried fast, this was two coats. However, the staying power was far from heavenly. To be fair, I do put it through a fair bit of stress during my paper round and I didn’t use a topcoat due to lack of funds, but this tipwear was after less than one day of wear. Hmm. Still at Β£2 (with another Β£5 off voucher I had) I can’t complain, and it really is a very sexy nail colour πŸ™‚
GOSH’s Holographic polish was just awful. I confess I didn’t find the application as bad as everybody seems to say, but it took 4 coats to get to this opaque state as it was very uneven. If I so much as touched it it decided to come off on my finger, reminding me of the powder on butterfly wings. Don’t touch butterfly wings, this results in their starvation and death. Also, it chips like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Not even with the Poundland ChitChat polishes (remarkably good for the price, but anyway…) did I experience such a horror. I’m just happy I didn’t pay Β£16 for it on eBay because, looking online, there are many much better holo’s out there with better properties full stop. However, this was pretty for the day πŸ™‚
That’s all from me since I’m getting sleepy. I wasn’t going to do this ’til tomorrow but I’m waiting for my nails to dry. This one’s exciting πŸ˜‰
Goodnight all πŸ™‚

No.7 – Cherry Tang

In extended celebration of the end of my January exams I have over-indulged. *slaps wrist*. I now have good reason to, I was rejected from Northampton, :(. But anyhoo, before this news, Andy and I went for a wee gander round Oxford, and I dragged him round loads of shoppies πŸ™‚ so one has rather a lot to talk about. I’m going to stage this in blogs, since I don’t want anyone falling asleep from boredom on here.:P

I also had a nail disaster while making brownies for my Chemistry class, as no-one bothered to tell me that plain chocolate is a bugger to break for melting! I somehow managed to bend 7 of my nails past the quick, so now I not only have short yucky nails, I have short broken yucky nails. They are sooooore! πŸ™ ah well, I hope they grow out soon.

Firstly here are some Sophy Robson “Eek” inspired nails πŸ™‚

L-R: Barry M Mushroom 310, L’oreal 603, Barry M Indigo 312, Barry M Cyan Blue 294 and Barry M Spring Green 290. The whites of the eyes are the white Rio Nail Art Pen and the pupils and the black Rio Nail Art Pen.
The same applies to the right hand but obviously starting from thumb to pinkie!

Now for the No.7, I bought this (among others) using a Β£5 off voucher, so it was a steal for just Β£2!

In the bottle!
So, if you look very closely on the nails in the first picture you can see the faint shimmer. It’s more obvious in the bottle, in which there are glitters that are silver and blue. I love the idea of the blue glitter as it gives the tiniest hint of duochrome, but not at all obvious.
The shimmer doesn’t translate amazingly to the nails, but I think this is partly due to the sheerness of the polish. Β In the second picture you may see what I mean, I kid you not, that is 4-5 coats. And you can still see the whites of my nails! I tried a 6th on another nail after it chipped and that still wasn’t opaque, so I gave up. I think next time I will wear it over an opaque base.
As for the “Speed Dry”, I’m not convinced. I don’t own any other Speed Drys by No.7 so I can’t vouch for the name overall, but this polish has to be applied very thinly in order to benefit from a quicker drying time. Indeed, when I messily pasted a slightly-less-than-thin layer of Cherry Tang on one nail and a similar layer of the normal drying polish on another nail, the Cherry Tang took much longer to dry! So I wouldnt bother buying it for the fast-drying properties of this polish.
On a more positive note, the colour is absolutely stunning, it varies in different lights between pink, coral, red and orange. I just want to eat it! I couldn’t stop staring at my nails the whole time I wore it, so despite the sheerness I am absolutely so so glad that I bought it, and at such a naughty price! Who can complain πŸ˜€ The colour totally makes up for the pitfalls of this one.
I didn’t wear a topcoat, largely because I was so fed up of waiting for layer after layer to dry, so maybe that is why the tip wear is visible… possibly also aided by my paper round. I can’t really say much on the staying power since I only wore it for 2 days due to my incapacity to keep things the same, I was just itching to get another colour on my nails!
Pleased with the colours of No.7 polishes as a whole, more on that later πŸ™‚
Hope the week treated everyone well!
