No7 Galaxy – Chanel Taboo Dupe

Hello! So today, I have a gorgeous polish to show you. Back last year, photos and blogposts of a pretty beautiful nail varnish started to surface… by the name of Chanel Taboo. It quickly became a cult favourite – everyone wanted it! It was actually only available in the US for quite a while, which I think stirred the proverbial pot here in the UK even more and it became a BIG favourite for Summer/Autumn 2013. I know I really wanted it!

Retailing at around the £18 mark, it was not only hard to get, but hard to justify! So thankfully… (as often happens with Chanel favourites) Boots No7 came up with the perfect dupe.

No 7 Vivid Violet

Hey guys, here’s a mini polish from No 7 I received as part of a Christmas gift set from my auntie. It came with an eyeshadow duo which is gorgeous, and a lipgloss called Marshmallow which is equally gorgeous. The polish I’m not wild about. I love the colour but the application leaves a little to be desired.

No.7 Miracle Plum

First of all a HUGE thank you to the lovely Mel who sent me this rather amazing polish in our swap recently – this is my second time wearing this one, it’s gorgeous and so fun!

No.7 released a line called ‘Colour Miracle’ a while back… sadly it’s now discontinued – do any of you own the Colour Miracle shades? I’ve only been able to find two online, were there more? Basically, you apply 1-2 coats of the polish, which gives a lovely colour. Add topcoat, and the colour changes completely. Hopefully my pictures will demonstrate this!

I was a little inspired to try it out by the Barry M Chameleon Nail Paint press release – Barry M are releasing 3 new ‘chameleon’ shades next week (eeee I’m so excited!). You can probably tell that my use of the clear polish was pretty much stolen from the press release!

2 coats of the polish applied over a basecoat – this is the ‘natural’ colour of the polish.

I added a few dots of clear topcoat to my index finger, painted 1 coat of topcoat over my middle finger, painted 1 coat of topcoat over my ring finger and added dots of the original colour, and painted a very rubbish tip with topcoat on my pinkie finger!

I swear my nails didn’t look that messy in person… hence the small amount of photos compared to usual! Anyway. I love this polish, so much fun! My only gripe is for those of you who like to wear polish for more than 1-2 days, there’s no real way of preserving the original colour or the nail art design, unless you do a topcoat sandwich underneath. Hmm. Anyway, I believe that this colour is very similar to one of the Barry M colours:

If this is the case, I’ll certainly do a side-by-side comparison to show you all since No.7 Miracle Plum is discontinued 🙁 as far as I’m aware anyway… Application-wise, Miracle Plum took 1 coat to be opaque, but I wore it for a day or so at just 1 coat and got a bit of tipwear so I’d suggest 2 coats to be on the safe side, if you have this in your stash!

Let me know what you think of the colour-changing polish thing, is it something you’re interested in, or too much of a faff?

x

Updated Nail Polish Collection

This isn’t a showing off post, au contrare, I wish I had more – lol.

I thought that maybe for the benefit of you all I would put up some photos of my current collection, and say for example you want to see a picture of a particular polish I happen to own you can let me know in the comments box. I will also link pictures I have already taken when I name the polishes, if that makes any sense. Basically click the blue words if you want to see the pics.

Grouped by brand.

Here is my storage, I managed to find a large shoebox which will fit perfectly for the next 20 or so polishes, then I suppose I’ll have to move on to bigger and better boxes.
So this is going to seem like a tiny collection to certain among you who will no doubt have about ten times the amount that I do 😛 Believe you me I plan on expanding my collection for ever and always to the extent that income allows. Haha.

So once again if you didn’t read at the top 😛 comment if there’s any of these you’d like to see before you buy, as such, or even if you feel my pictures don’t show you what you want to see 🙂 I will also strive to update this every time I post pictures of each colour as and when.

Boots No.7 Speed Dry Cherry Tang with Barry M Pink Iridescent

Sorry for being so long in blogging, my brother nicked the camera for a few days so I was lost, glad to be back 😀 This is a quick pic of a polish I’ve showed you before, but this time with some pretty glitter on top 🙂 First be warned, this polish actually has a more cerise tone to it than the pictures would have you believe, and it’s actually got a very jelly-ish finish.

This one looks horribly bumpy haha I assure you it wasn’t, you may want to click the photo to enlarge it 🙂
In all seriousness, where you see the red, imagine a gorgeous cerise colour because it really isn’t that red. So annoying! Anyway, since this polish is shimmery/glittery anyway I figured it would look nice with Barry M Pink Iridescent (and also partly because I smudged my right hand ring finger to beyond recognition lol).
I wore this to the Royal Albert Hall for a Royal Wedding Classical Concert (basically it was posh). It was gorgeous but I had to take it off the next day because of tip wear. I think that’s probably due to the fact that I used the old nude-base trick, so I ended up with quite a few layers of polish. Anyway, this is basecoat + 1 coat Accessorize Fudge + 2 coats of Cherry Tang + 1 coat Pink Iridescent.
I also tried the Models Own Smash Up Silver over one nail but it was such a fail I was ashamed to show you lol.
Cherry Tang, despite it’s flaws (not drying quickly despite its ‘Speed Dry’ name, being incredibly sheer etc), is actually one of my very favourite polishes purely because it is so pretty and unique. If you’re willing to put up with said issues, I would 100% recommend this polish on the basis of colour alone, I love it! I feel a huge urge to buy a backup.
How are you all? I’m ultra ultra excited because Andy and I are going to see Derren Brown tomorrow night, and for no reason whatsoever I’m in one of those bizarrely cheerful moods again 😛 Hope you are all well and I promise to make more regular appearances in the near future! I also have 7 Eyeko polishes somewhere in the post which I’m very excited about, despite the nightmare postage charge which all seems a bit dodgy if you ask me. Will expand if you wish me to?
