Sakura Bournemouth – Japanese Fashion & Cocktails Bloggers Event

Hey everyone! This week myself and my lovely friend Charlie (of Pocket Money Polishes) went to a Japanese Fashion and Cocktail event at Sakura bar in Bournemouth. This bar has only opened recently (it used to be Lola Lo) and I have to say it’s looking great! I confess I never went into Lola Lo, but the Japanese style of the bar is perfectly executed.

I made sure to take a good few photos of the event to share with you all because it was a great experience (and actually my first official bloggers event! Exciting!).

Please excuse the obligatory unflattering photo of myself (WHY) but you will find the lovely Charlie on the right!

Hannah Jean from Find My Style gave us a wonderful presentation on the main themes of Japanese fashion, and its influence over Western fashion styles. My favourite of these was that the pieces are all designed around movement. We saw a clip of the Issey Miyake A/W 2014 catwalk, which I have to say was pretty amazing! You can watch it here:

We also got to have a go at making our own origami dresses, which was so much fun! (If a little fiddly!). Here are mine and Charlie’s attempts – I think they turned out pretty well!

Next we got a cocktail demonstration. The lovely ladies behind the bar showed us how to make a Cherry Blossom cocktail, and we also got a chance to have a go at making one. There was also Sake, and various other cocktail shots throughout the night (free alcohol – who could refuse??) 🙂

The Cherry Blossom cocktail was a blend of cherry brandy, amaretto, cranberry juice (and an unknown shot of syrup – bad blogger Emma!) finished with a cherry and two mini straws. It was divine! Priced at £7.50. The Sake is £1.50, or a stick of 6 for £6 – they come in all sorts of yummy flavours such as melon, cola, raspberry… although I have to confess the two I tried I wasn’t a huge fan of…).

The event was a huge amount of fun, and venue was gorgeous. My eyes have been opened to Japanese fashion, which, to be honest, I’d never paid much attention to before. I’d definitely recommend Sakura Bournemouth for an evening out!
