It’s that time of year again, and Barry M have once again brought out two beautiful Christmas glitters for Boots. These could actually pass for Halloween/Bonfire Night polishes I think, given that their names (Starlight and Moonlight) are very suited to those festivities!
I have to confess, when I picked mine up in Boots my initial thoughts were that they looked very similar, however as you will see below, they are quite different. Both have large glitter shapes in which is a big YES in my books! 🙂
Barry M Starlight Glitter Boots 2014
I thought I’d start with my favourite of the two – Starlight is just stunning! This is one coat over Barry M Nightshade. It’s a clear base filled with pale pink holo and yellow-gold holo hexagonal glitters (some are very small, some are standard medium size) and there are also pale pink and gold holographic stars in there too. The pictures don’t accurately convey all the holographic-ness going on – this glitter is unbelievably sparkly and reflective.
For a nice change, this glitter is pretty dense so getting lots of glitters on your nail won’t be a problem. I tended to dab it on more than brushing it on, as this often causes the glitters to drag with the brush. That being said, you need to be careful to leave just a thin coat, otherwise it will take a while to dry. It dries to a semi-glossy finish but definitely benefits from a coat of topcoat – this will also help to protect the star glitters from getting caught on things and snagging off.
Barry M Moonlight Glitter Boots 2014
The second of the Barry M Boots Limited Edition nail polishes is Moonlight. Again one coat over Barry M Nightshade. This is again a clear base filled with LOTS of silver metallic glitter (in three sizes of hexagons, and also bar glitter), it also has a much smaller amount of gold holographic hexagons in the larger size, and some curiously shaped red metallic glitter (is it a flag? Or a… um… no I really don’t know!). There are also holo stars in this one too. It’s very blingy – definitely one that will stand out on your nails and is the more Christmassy of the two, for me.
Moonlight, like Starlight, was also very dense on the glitter. The ratio of glitter to base was such that you don’t need to worry too much about dragging (as you can see at just one coat it provides excellent coverage!). It can be a little thick so just go easy applying it – it’s nothing a good quick-drying topcoat won’t sort though. As you can see, some of the silver hexagon pieces have curled a little, so I’d definitely recommend a healthy dose of topcoat. And again the finish isn’t as shiny as I’d like, so I used topcoat.
Overall
I’m a massive sucker for glitter, Christmas and sparkles, so if you know me at all you will know how much I’m in love with these! I think I’ll definitely be going back for a backup of Starlight because I’m sure I’ll use it up. As always with Barry M, these have brilliant formulas and priced at just £3.99, these won’t break the bank!
