Maybelline Street Art Boom Box Black - Imagination In Colour

Maybelline Street Art Boom Box Black

Hey chickas. Today I’m sticking with the Maybelline Street Artist collection because Alley Attitude really wowed my pants off, so I just HAD to try this one! I have to admit, I wasn’t keen on this one in the bottle, but I felt like it might look pretty on the nail… so I picked it up anyway. I wasn’t disappointed!

My big challenge with this polish was finding the right ‘underwear’ to go with it. I didn’t fancy white or grey but that left a limited amount of colours that this polish would look nice with. I opted for bright pink in the end, so here I am showing 1 coat of Boom Box Black over 2 coats of Ciaté Kiss Chase.

I think maybe it was just too much for it to have pale green and bright pink in one image!

Boom Box Black is a mixture of hexagons in multiple sizes in pale yellowy-green and in black. There are also tiny yellowy-green bar glitters too, which are really cute!

Application:

I had no issues with the application of Boom Box Black. The glitter is even and dense, so more than one coat and I think you would cover up too much of the base polish. All of the glitters lie pretty much flat (although I would still use a topcoat as bar glitters are notorious for lifting!). The polish dries quickly and to a fair shine, but again I think a topcoat is needed for a glossy finish. I did have to ‘fish’ for the large green hexagons and place them separately on the nail.

I do really like this polish, although I’m not as big a fan of it as I was of Alley Attitude. They are virtually identical in their glitter shapes (except AA has more larger hexagons), but I think it’s just the pale tone of the green glitter that hasn’t quite won me over. Super bright neon green would have my heart beating but this one, not so much. I think I was won over by AA too soon and now this just doesn’t quite compare! How about you?

You can buy this as well as the other Maybelline Street Art polishes from Boots and Superdrug, both online and instore, for £3.99 each.
