Maybelline Brocades Foil Flash - Imagination In Colour

Maybelline Brocades Foil Flash

Hello chickas, sorry I’ve missed 2 days of blogmas! I promise I will do the full month, it might just have to run into January a little bit now. I do have a good reason for missing the last two days – I’ve been revising HARD for my driving theory test. I took it yesterday morning, and passed! 🙂 yay! And then I spent the rest of the day finishing off my Christmas shopping – before I knew it it was 10pm and my eyes wouldn’t stay open (probably because I only got 2.5 hrs sleep on Thursday night!). But I’m back today!

I’ve ogled these Maybelline Brocades for quite a while. I’ve now bought 3/4 – I haven’t bought Knitted Gold as it seems to be an almost-dupe of A England She Walks In Beauty, which I have. However, I was discussing this with Jemma of Puddleducks Nail Posts 🙂 and she said just what I was thinking… ‘let’s see how long it takes before you cave and buy it’! Am I really that predictable?! 😉

The shimmer feels a lot like glitter, but it’s not as hard to remove as glitter. In fact the shimmer comes off easily, just the silver hexes tend to stick fast. It’s almost a textured polish – almost. As far as the base goes, I can think of two dupes – Seventeen Wishing Star and OPI Ski Slope Sweetie. However neither of them have the silver hex glitter in so this is unique to my collection :).

Application:

Application was pretty easy, it went on smoothly and easily, and very evenly too. I was doing it half in the dark but it turned out okay which is a win in my book! :). It dries quickly, and is very sparkly. Pictures show 2 coatsif you need more I’d suggest layering it over another colour instead of doing 3 as it will get very chunky!

Unfortunately I did find that this polish chipped EXTREMELY easily, in one day of wear I have chipping on every finger of my right hand and both thumbs and my left index and pinkie fingers. I confess I wasn’t wearing basecoat but I was still surprised. So when you wear this I would highly recommend wearing a basecoat, a topcoat, and possibly even layering it over a neutral or white to prolong wear. That’s probably what I will do next time I wear it. Although I am envisioning using this for french tips! <3

Despite the chipping issue I do really really like this polish, it’s so pretty! Definitely a great accent nail polish or for nail art too! I’m quite intrigued to see what it looks like over black :).

What do you think? Are you sold on the Maybelline Brocades or not so much? They retail at £3.99 each in Boots or Superdrug – quite a bargain when they’re on 3 for 2!
