Midori Models Own Trio - Imagination In Colour

Midori Models Own Trio

Hello lovely ladies 🙂 today features a really funky trio by Models Own and Midori – they’ve teamed up to release three melon-scented green polishes all set for the party season! Midori is a melon flavoured liqueur – I confess I haven’t tried it but the mouth-watering scent of these polishes makes me want to! I adore the flavour of melon so I’ll have to give it a go. So today’s question is what would you use as your mixer with Midori?

These may seem unusual colours for winter (particularly the neon green!) but personally, I love a splash of colour during bleary winter, and for those of you who enjoy a night out this is a perfect way to spice up an otherwise winter-coloured outfit without going all-out!

This polish is ‘My Midori’ – a gorgeous neon green jelly. And IT DRIES GLOSSY! This one is the most strongly scented of the three, but unlike a lot of scented polishes, it doesn’t smell of some toxic concoction of synthetic scents, it actually smells of watermelon chewing gum, in the best way! I adore it! I don’t know how long the scent lasts/whether topcoat affects it as I haven’t tried it but if I find out I will let you know. It just smells so fresh!

Application:

The photo shows the polish at 4 coats, so it is sheer, like many neon jellies. While the visible nail line doesn’t bother me, if it does bother you, you’re probably better off layering 2 coats of My Midori over a white polish, to eliminate the sheer factor and make it pop. It dries relatively quickly, and to a gloss finish :). It’s not streaky at all, so building it up isn’t a problem. Overall I would say great formula other than the opacity, which is pretty much a given when you’re working with a neon jelly anyway!

This polish is ‘Golden Green’. Now this is BEAUTIFUL. It’s got a really strong duochrome flash from a bright golden green to a rosey bronze colour. It’s so pretty! I notice that Models Own has another ‘Golden Green’ polish – looking at swatches, they are quite different, as the other Golden Green has a gold to green duochrome flash instead. So I’m not sure whether they reformulated that one for this collection? Either way it’s gorgeous! This one too smells of melon but not quite as strongly as My Midori.

Application:

Golden Green is opaque at two coats. This was a little on the thick side which meant I had to be more careful with application but nothing serious. It dries fairly quickly and to a fairly high shine. It applies pretty evenly too 🙂 Good formula overall.

This is ‘Dancing Queen’ – again Models Own already have a Dancing Queen and this seems pretty much identical to it but it’s a nice way to round off the collection. To be honest I would never have paired Dancing Queen with either of these polishes ordinarily but they look fab together! I was really pleasantly surprised. The glitter includes: green, blue, gold and turquoise hex glitter, holo silver diamonds, ice blue mylar flake shards and turquoise holo bar glitter. I feel like there may be some gold squares in there too! A real mix, but somehow it works really really well. The scent on this one was more subtle than My Midori, about the same as with Golden Green.

Application:

The glitter to clear base ratio is almost perfect in the polish – I feel like I wouldn’t want more or less of the glitter, it’s pretty much spot on at one coat. That being said, you do have to push the glitter around a bit for even placement. It’s pretty good at self-levelling though so pushing it round a bit doesn’t seem to disrupt the even-ness of the finish. It dries in average time so a quick-dry topcoat will help to speed things up. Overall I’m pretty pleased with this polish – while the application isn’t perfect, the combination of glitters and their density really is!

I love these three as a set, I really feel like they aren’t polishes I’d pick out as a trio but somehow they just work! What do you think? Also, what do you think of scented polishes? I think in theory they’re a bit of a gimmick but in practice I just LOVE it! Haha.

The Models Own Midori set retails at just £15 from Models Own. The liqueur Midori is also available at many supermarkets, including Tesco, Morrisons and Asda. You can follow Midori on Facebook for updates on cocktail recipes specially for Christmas – mmm!
