Hey everyone! Today I have some really exciting falsies to show you… these got a lot of attention from my colleagues at work and given that they were predominantly male that day that’s saying something! Even the customers complimented me on my nails several times!
Elegant Touch have released some super new products this spring (don’t tell me it’s already summer… eek! Where does the time go!). The product I am reviewing today is the UV Gel Technology Press On Nails, which include animal print, textures, metallics and pastels. The idea behind the UV Gel Technology is that they are chip-resistant, long-lasting and durable. I can’t say much for the long-lasting claim as I only wore these for 2 days but they are certainly durable and I don’t even know how you can chip a falsie… but basically mine didn’t chip despite the (quite heavy) wear-and-tear they were subjected to on a busy day at work. They stayed perfect the whole time I wore them!
As you can see, the 24 false nails come with little tabs attached to the end (this is the end that isn’t next to your cuticle). These have little numbers on them which indicate the size – this is really handy for finding the right size for the corresponding fingers on each hand, you can use the same number on both ring fingers, etc., rather than having to guess. There is also a nail file (a ‘buffer’ according to the packaging) and 24 of the self-adhesive glue tabs included in the pack.
Here is the self-adhesive tab applied to my thumb nail. The application of these is super easy: you peel one off the plastic set of 24, and apply to the appropriate nail. It’s important to stick from the middle outwards or you end up with bumps where air has been trapped or creasing. This is quite difficult to smooth out because the adhesive is very strong so it’s very much a one-step application. This is fairly easy though anyway. The tab has a plastic protective film over the top which protects the adhesive top layer which the falsie will stick to – you just peel this off, apply the falsie, and press it down hard. Then you push the tab at the end of the falsie down till it snaps off, and use the ‘buffer’ (nail file) or just your own nail file to file off any excess plastic.
My one issue with this pack specifically was that the tabs were far too short for my nails… the pack is the ‘short’ variety but the tabs were much shorter than the actual false nails, which led to a little gap being left between the falsie and my actual nail (see image below). To be honest it didn’t pose much of a problem really because the adhesive is so strong the nails just would not come off no matter what, but it does mean bits of fluff and such get stuck under there. In future I would definitely use a ‘medium’ sized pack to avoid this issue but if you have shorter nail beds it shouldn’t be a problem :).
To be honest it isn’t all that noticeable in person – many people commented that they looked real and the fit was otherwise perfect. Where the adhesive tab was they were almost one with my actual nail.
Overall I absolutely love these falsies – I feel like the shortness of the adhesive tabs is a problem specific to me and isn’t really a design flaw so I can’t complain. I suppose you could say they look a little tacky but for some reason I really love the slight tackiness of these, somehow it just works. I thoroughly enjoyed wearing these and the attention they garnered so I will definitely be purchasing more! Next on my list is the Feather Design Nails… they look gorgeous!
Elegant Touch Press On Nails are available from Superdrug and Boots for £7.10 per pack. Considering you would probably get a week’s wear out of these I think that’s a very reasonable price. What do you think? Which designs are your favourite?
