Barry M Dragon Fruit Gelly

I told you it was taking me ages to get through the new Gellies! I really felt like Dragon Fruit required maximum sunshine due to some beautiful hidden shimmer in it… hopefully it comes across a little in the photos. Dragon Fruit is one of Barry M’s Spring 2013 releases and wow is it springy! The latest Gelly releases include Green Berry, Lychee, Dragon Fruit and Papaya.

This one is my favourite alongside Green Berry, but this is the most ‘gel-like’ Gelly Nail Paint I have tried – I have them all so have worn them all at various points! It’s also the polish I got the most compliments on – one of my colleagues asked me if they were my real nails because she thought they looked like acrylics or gels and I’ve also worn this polish at least 3 times so far, which is pretty good going for me! I keep getting tempted to wear it again but I have to tell myself that I have several hundred ‘unblogged’ polishes waiting for their time in the limelight sooo…

Interestingly Dragon Fruit takes on a slightly more blue-toned bubblegum shade in duller lighting.

But it’s still super pretty; if you look very closely at your nails in direct light you can just catch the silvery sparkle. I don’t know how much it affects the overall appearance of the polish but I think it’s a nice touch. Dragon Fruit is a blue-toned pink – not my colour at all, but I fell in love with it the instant I saw it, even more so once I put it on. It’s incredibly flattering to my pale skin-tone, and I think this will be a great shade for all skin colours.

Application:

This was the sheerest of the Gelly Nail Paints – the images show 2 coats which gives a fairly opaque coverage but as you can see, the faintest hint of my free edge shows through. This isn’t something that bothers me and you could prevent it by applying two generous coats as opposed to my two thin coats. The finish is beautifully glossy, and the polish dries quickly. It’s not as thick as the other Gelly polishes which makes the final appearance more even.

If I had to choose one from the new Gelly Nail Paints, Dragon Fruit would be it. I never thought I’d fall for a Barbie pink but I really have! I will definitely be wearing this polish again and again this Spring/Summer! Which polish would you choose?

You can buy Barry M Dragon Fruit from Boots.com where they are currently on offer (3 for 2 across all makeup) and Superdrug.com, as well as instore and at Barrym.com, for a very reasonable £3.99!

  • STAAAHP IT, I’m only allowed to buy nail polish once a month! (it’s nearly april, it’s nearly april, it’s nearly april…!) This is so gorgeous, the new Gellys are right at the very top of my wishlist. This is absolutely my colour (if it’s pink, I’ll take it!) and I reeeeally hope all my hinting at le husband has paid off for my birthday.

    • Haha 🙂 aww sorry 😀 it is very nearly April!! They really are super, I really recommend this one and Green Berry, both are so unique 😀 aww, when is your birthday? xx

      • They’re the ones that stood out most to me – although I reeeally want Lychee too, I don’t own any nude polishes so obviously I need one, and it’s so pretty too! My birthday is next week – pretty scary, I don’t much like the thought of getting older now…! It was a lovely thought five years ago but now I just want the ageing process to stop!

        • Aww haha hope you had a lovely birthday and I know the feeling, it makes me a little anxious too even though I’m only 19! Which ones did you get? 😀 😀 xxx

          • oh to be 19 again…! (it was hardly long ago, i’m just a big drama queen!) I got Green Berry, Dragon Fruit and Papaya. I also got an awesome nail art inspiration book which I’m so excited to start using for some art designs!

    Ohhh a stunning colour!!

    • 😀 it is! xx

  • As you know, I own this one also and love it, but it shocked me to see that you originally thought this colour isn’t for you as this compliments your skin-tone so well! It’s amazing how many times you’ve said that about polishes that have been sent to you to review which has made you wear them as opposed to just seeing them in the shop and not picking them up!!
This is the only one I picked up from the newest Gellys as I probably wouldn’t wear the others at all. I am liking the look of Watermelon though, so I think that’s next on my (evergrowing) list 😀 xx

    • Aww thank you <3 🙂 it's true, I'm often surprised that I like certain polishes, especially pastels because they can look a bit funny with my skin but this is such a perfect tone, I think it will look great on everyone 😀 Ooh Watermelon is gorgeous, you can't be without a nice teal! 😀 xxx

  • Charlotte Bone

Gorgeous!! I love pink so I’ll definitely be getting this one 🙂

    • 😀 it’s definitely a must! 😀 xx
