I told you it was taking me ages to get through the new Gellies! I really felt like Dragon Fruit required maximum sunshine due to some beautiful hidden shimmer in it… hopefully it comes across a little in the photos. Dragon Fruit is one of Barry M’s Spring 2013 releases and wow is it springy! The latest Gelly releases include Green Berry, Lychee, Dragon Fruit and Papaya.
This one is my favourite alongside Green Berry, but this is the most ‘gel-like’ Gelly Nail Paint I have tried – I have them all so have worn them all at various points! It’s also the polish I got the most compliments on – one of my colleagues asked me if they were my real nails because she thought they looked like acrylics or gels and I’ve also worn this polish at least 3 times so far, which is pretty good going for me! I keep getting tempted to wear it again but I have to tell myself that I have several hundred ‘unblogged’ polishes waiting for their time in the limelight sooo…
Interestingly Dragon Fruit takes on a slightly more blue-toned bubblegum shade in duller lighting.
As you can see, the shimmer barely translates to the nail. But it’s still super pretty; if you look very closely at your nails in direct light you can just catch the silvery sparkle. I don’t know how much it affects the overall appearance of the polish but I think it’s a nice touch. Dragon Fruit is a blue-toned pink – not my colour at all, but I fell in love with it the instant I saw it, even more so once I put it on. It’s incredibly flattering to my pale skin-tone, and I think this will be a great shade for all skin colours.
Application:
This was the sheerest of the Gelly Nail Paints – the images show 2 coats which gives a fairly opaque coverage but as you can see, the faintest hint of my free edge shows through. This isn’t something that bothers me and you could prevent it by applying two generous coats as opposed to my two thin coats. The finish is beautifully glossy, and the polish dries quickly. It’s not as thick as the other Gelly polishes which makes the final appearance more even.
If I had to choose one from the new Gelly Nail Paints, Dragon Fruit would be it. I never thought I’d fall for a Barbie pink but I really have! I will definitely be wearing this polish again and again this Spring/Summer! Which polish would you choose?
You can buy Barry M Dragon Fruit from Boots.com where they are currently on offer (3 for 2 across all makeup) and Superdrug.com, as well as instore and at Barrym.com, for a very reasonable £3.99!
