The Edge Nails Nail Polish Review & Swatches - Imagination In Colour

The Edge Nails Nail Polish Review & Swatches

Hello! Today I have six nail polishes from The Edge Nails to show you 🙂 I hadn’t heard of The Edge Nails before they contacted me to kindly send me some products for review – they are a professional brand in the UK. As always, I love the bottle shape of these – I’m a sucker for a rectangular bottle!

They also have a nice flat brush which makes for easy application – I always love a flat brush.

The Edge Nails Nail Polish

The Edge Nails Hanover

This is a lovely silvery gunmetal shade. It’s not a frost, but it’s a little frostier than a shimmer (if that makes sense!). It does show some brush strokes – it’s not a major issue though and not overly noticeable in person. It’s been so long since I’ve worn a silver or a gunmetal that this one took me by surprise – I love it! I’ve worn it a couple of times already.

Application: Hanover is basically opaque in one coat. I added a 2nd coat just to be sure but it’s practically perfect. The formula is really nice and other than the slight brush-strokeyness, I didn’t have any issues. It dries in good time and to a nice metallic finish. Topcoat needed only for longevity – I often don’t like to topcoat these types of finishes as they are reflective enough on their own!

The Edge Nails Egyptian Gold

The Edge Nails Egyptian Gold

This is a clear-based yellow-gold shimmer (that shimmer is insane!). I LOVE this one. It can be used to build up to opacity or as a dense topcoat over another colour. The above image shows it layered at one coat over different colours. This is exactly the type of gold I get in mind when I think of Egyptian gold too! It reminds me a lot of OPI Oy-Another Polish Joke, except this is a bit more golden and vibrant where the OPI is more yellow.

Application: It applies fairly evenly, which makes it good for layering. It does take a good 3-4 coats for full opacity (my photo shows just 2 coats because I quite like it semi-opaque… my nails are pretty short here too so the VNL isn’t prominent!). It dries quickly and to a semi-glossy finish. I’d recommend topcoat for the full effect.

The Edge Nails Ginza

This is a gorgeous glossy cyan blue creme. A perfect staple for any collection! It’s a lovely tone too – not too cold, so it won’t wash you out.

Application: This applied very easily, and is opaque at 1-2 coats. Not streaky. It dries very glossy so topcoat is only needed for longevity. I would strongly recommend you use a basecoat for this colour though, as with many blues like this, this is certain to be a stainer!

The Edge Nails Paris

This is a very sheer pink filled with red, blue and silver shimmer. It’s absolutely gorgeous, but probably not designed to be worn alone (unless you’re going for a really subtle look!). It adds a lovely subtle glow to your natural nail. I think this would be great as part of a French manicure, or layered. Take a look at the shimmer on the brush above! It applies really evenly so it’s perfect for layering.

Application: I think it’s unlikely this would get to totally opaque on it’s own. As I said, it applies evenly, and dries relatively quickly. It’s nice and glossy on it’s own so won’t need topcoat.

The Edge Nails Cape Town

The Edge Nails Cape Town

This is a pearl-finish light maroon-type colour. I’m not sure there’s a word for this shade! I have to confess this is my least favourite of the colours I was sent – it’s not very ‘me’, but it’s still pretty. I feel like it will look amazing on dark skin tones. Unfortunately it does show any nail damage through it as lumps and bumps will alter the course of the shimmer so a good ridge-filling base coat is ideal.

Application: This is opaque at 2 coats. As it shows up brush strokes quite a lot, it’s best to try and paint in very straight lines from cuticle to tip. It dries a little slowly and to a slightly dull finish, so a quick-dry topcoat is advisable.

The Edge Nails 5 Star Top Coat

The Edge Nails 5 Star Top Coat

This is a standard topcoat (not quick-dry) which is good for finishing off a manicure if you’re not in a rush. I like to use these for swatching, but not often for actual wear unless I’ve run out of quick-dry topcoat, simply because it takes that much longer to dry.

This topcoat does cover up dense glitters very well, leaving a nice smooth finish at 1-2 coats. As you can see in the picture above, it did smudge my stamping a little bit, so I would advise either you don’t use this topcoat for stamping or ensure your stamping is totally totally dry before topcoating – and use a nice thick coat that you can apply very lightly.

For me this is handy to have for swatching, but I wouldn’t say it’s something I’d go out of my way to buy.

Overall

I was very pleased with the quality of the coloured polishes (with the possible exception of Cape Town), and I will definitely be using the other four frequently! I am excited to do a full manicure of Egyptian Gold over black, it looks pretty amazing in person. And the top coat is definitely handy to have.

You can buy each nail polish for £2.30 + VAT, which I make out to be £2.76 each. The VAT is automatically added on at the checkout. In my eyes this is amazing value for some really good quality nail polishes. They have a great selection of nail polishes here. If you needed any more persuasion, The Edge Nails have kindly provided a discount code for new customers, which is “WELCOMEOFFER” for 20% off your first order! They also have some great nail care products, as well as gel products, so be sure to check those out while you’re there to make the best of the offer. They also have free delivery on orders over £25 in the UK. 🙂

What do you think of The Edge Nails? I have to say I was expecting them to be closer to the £5 mark until I checked the price to write this post! They’re good value and their range will give you a great selection of colours. I will definitely be making a sneaky order when I have some money to spare!

I will have two more posts on products from The Edge Nails in the near future so be sure to keep an eye out!
