Barry M Red Wine

I’m back! I’m still not really sure what’s right for me and what’s not, but I loved this polish so much I decided I had to share it with you guys. You know I love my Barry M’s… I managed to find a discontinued Barry M (with no name) in a charity shop the other day, which spurned me on to buy 3 more discontinued shades, along with the new ‘Cappuccino’ and ‘Nude’ – whoops! I don’t know what it is about Barry M’s – maybe the bottle shape, maybe the colour range, the price, the quality… so many reasons. I’ve become a bit of a hoarder of Barry M nail paints, I think I’m only missing a handful from my collection!

Barry M Red Wine is a gorgeously glossy blue-toned red jelly (what a mouthful!). It puts me in mind of lollipops. This lovely vampy shade is pretty much the exact colour of blood. Somehow I love that… but then I’ve always loved the rich redness of blood. I love the jelly finish – that beautiful squishy glossy coating of red looks blooming marvellous on the nail! I feel like jellies are few and far between on the UK high street. What’s great about Red Wine is that it’s not so jellified that it shows the free-edge however many coats you layer up – all you need is two!

Application:

The photos all show 2 coats. To be honest, most of my nails were opaque at 1 coat, which is pretty awesome for a jelly finish. The polish dried quickly and dried to an incredibly high shine – you won’t need a topcoat unless you want this to last more than the standard 3 or so days (for Barry M’s).

What do you think? I don’t often opt for a red on my nails. I don’t know why because I love red nails. I suppose I feel they can be a bit cliché – I always wore red when I was young. But they look so elegant and classy. I love them.

I’ve never actually seen Red Wine in shops – mine was a present from my mum bought from the Barry M website. It costs £2.99 and you can get it from the Barry M website, eBay and Amazon for pretty decent prices.

Just so you know

I’m going to take a little break from blogging. Due to personal life circumstances I’m struggling to cope with now I just can’t enjoy it at all and that for me is when to stop. I’ll be back, I just don’t know when. Thank you all for your support, I’ve loved interacting with you. Take care. x

Marks and Spencer Cappuccino + OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air layered

Hello lovelies. I’ve come to realise that my blog has pretty much been a reviewing spot for all things nail polish, which is totally fine, but occasionally I like to change up a manicure before I take it off – either through lack of time or lack of motivation. It’s very easy to just slather on a layer of glitter to make it look like a whole new set of nails. This post will show you my most recent venture into the jazzing-up of a day-old manicure.

It’s nice to change things up, believe it or not blogging about the application and how many coats of polish I’m wearing and resizing photos and painstakingly trying to take colour-accurate, good quality photos gets to be one of those things that feels more like a chore than a hobby, and lately I have been so fed up with doing the same things every day so maybe this is just another little thing I need to alter in my daily routine. So you may yet see more ‘old’ manicures with a little inspiration added. There’s blurriness, and the dryness of my cuticles, but hey ho!

🙂

This is one coat of OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air over 2 coats of Marks and Spencer Cappuccino.

What do you think? Do you like to change a manicure with glitter so as to avoid the time and effort of completely re-doing them?

BeautyUK Moonstone

Just quickly want to mention that these photos are from Easter, the day before I did my Easter Egg nail art 🙂 this was the base colour. Sorry for using ancient photos but this polish is definitely pretty enough to deserve a review of its own before I forget about it! I first saw this thanks to the lovely Liloo who reviewed it in a guest post over on Lipglossiping.

BeautyUK Moonstone Nail Polish Gem stone collection posh polish silver blue foil baby blue shimmer orly rage glitter microglitter UK nail varnish pale blue silver This is a very pretty pale blue foil polish. Foils are always gorgeous, one of my favourite finishes. Moonstone looked very silver in most lights, but you could definitely see the blue tone which gave it that extra pretty edge. Quite unique, methinks!

Application:

The photos all show Moonstone at 3 coats, though it is pretty much opaque at 2. The polish dried quickly too which is always good. I did find application a little tricky due to the width of the cap – usually this isn’t a problem for me but it’s also a little short so I found it tricky to get a good hold on it but I know many people like this type of cap. Other than that, no complaints! I never like to put a topcoat on foils as they just don’t seem to gel well with topcoat, I find the finish too… too something to need it. Foily? Sparkly? I wonder if you guys know what I mean. Lol.

Moonstone was released as part of the ‘Posh Polish’ range which should be available in most Superdrugs, or alternatively at BeautyUK online. It costs £3.49  – a little steep for BeautyUK but I think that’s just me taking their lower prices for granted! What do you think- have you tried Moonstone or any others from the Posh Polish line? Let me know!

Marks and Spencer Cappuccino

Today I have another of the new polishes from M&S’s new line, the ‘Limited Collection’  (does anyone know whether this means they are limited edition?). Cappuccino is a wonderful neutral shade, fab formula and very flattering.

Marks and Spencer Cappuccino New Limited Collection Nude Taupe Greige Gold shimmer glassfleck sparkle glitter neutral nails office work appropriate brown grey buav approved cruelty free This one is perfect for the office, a wonderfully conservative colour with just a hint of gold glassfleck shimmer – enough to give it a unique warmth but not enough to make it inappropriate for work. The colour is also buildable – in the last photo (above) my ring finger has just 1 coat, which gives a lighter, warmer finish but totally streak-free. I think this would look lovely at 1 coat over a neutral polish like Ciaté My Fair Lady, to hide the free edge but give that warm tone to it. 2 coats and it gets a bit cooler.

Application:

No complaints. The photos all show 2 coats (other than my ring finger in the final large pic which is 1 coat). The polish gave a very even finish in terms of pigmentation and dried quickly. I really can’t fault this 🙂 also it had no signs of wear throughout the time I wore it and was very easy to apply (those are about the neatest I’ve ever managed to paint my nails in my LIFE).

Personally I prefer the warm tone of the polish at 1 coat but I know a lot of ladies just lurve a lovely greige, and this adds a nice gold-glassfleck twist to the traditional greige polish. Very flattering and also subtle enough for the more conservative polish-wearer. I love this one.

Cappuccino retails at £3.50 and is available in Marks & Spencer and on the Marks & Spencer website. Fabulous price for fabulous quality and colour, oh and it’s also cruelty-free (BUAV Approved)! What do you think? Is it something you’d wear? I for one am not really a greige-girl, but something about this has me hooked!
