Barry M Plum Gelly - Imagination In Colour

Barry M Plum Gelly

The first thing I want to mention about this polish is that some of the bottles of ‘Plum’ and ‘Blackberry’ were unfortunately mislabelled – so if you pick up the dark purple shown here and find it to be labelled ‘Blackberry’, don’t be alarmed, you do have the right one! Same goes for the deep blue being labelled ‘Blue Plum’ as opposed to ‘Blackberry’. (Just follow the colours you will find on the press release of the Barry M Gelly Nail Paints!)

These polishes have a gel-like finish, kind of like Shellac, Gelish etc. – i.e. it’s really opaque and really shiny! They will be released on the Barry M website on 21st September26th September in Superdrug and 3rd October in Boots, and will cost £3.99 each.

Here is Barry M Plum Gelly Nail Paint 1.

Plum is a lovely autumnal dark purple, with a lot of blue in it. It’s a very deep purple creme polish, which is just perfect for the colder months. I love these types of colours – ones which look almost black in low lighting, but which become a lot more vibrant in direct sunlight. The most noticeable difference in Plum Gelly compared to other Barry M Nail Paints is in the formula – this is very opaque and rather thick, definitely living up to the ‘gel-like’ formula. And of course there’s the silver lid and writing, which are different in Barry M’s normal line of polish.

Application:

Plum was definitely thick, which made application a touch more tricky as it was harder to manipulate the polish. However this is well worth it for the opacity, and the fact that it dries quickly and to a very high shine. The polish was largely opaque at one coat, as shown below, but there were a couple of patches where the colour had dragged slightly, leaving reddish streaks. So I would say it is opaque at 1 thick coat or 2 thin coats.

Here is Barry M Plum Gelly at one coat:

I love this, it’s not quite like any other purple I own. Something about it makes it quite unique. How do you feel about Plum? Is it a colour you would reach for?

Will you be getting any of the Barry M Gelly Nail Paints? The line consists of 9 colours: Plum, Blackberry, Watermelon, Blood Orange, Blueberry, Prickly Pear, Satsuma, Grapefruit and Pomegranate. I’m wearing Satsuma with a bright cobalt blue cardigan – I love how it pops against the blue!
