Rimmel recently released three gorgeous new ‘Cocktail Colour’ nail polishes, all of which are glassfleck-shimmers, in purple (Baby Bellini), pink (Hawaiian Punch) and orange (Shirley Temple). These are all STUNNING, although I warn you, you really really need a topcoat to realise the polish’s full potential!
I’m no purple polish lover, but in recent weeks it seems to have been growing on me like crazy! I’m virtually having cravings over it…! I believe that Baby Bellini was the initial catalyst. I saw the three Rimmel Cocktail Colours ‘In a Flash’ in Superdrug and, me being me, had to have all three, even though usually I’d pass on the purple. I am so super duper glad I did buy it though, because it is literally the most amazing purple polish ever to have adorned my nails. Look at that pink duochrome! It’s subtle but ever so pretty, I constantly stared at my nails while wearing this and was loathe to remove it.
Baby Bellini is a reddish purple base, packed with mainly royal purple glassfleck shimmer but also with pink, which makes for the slight duochrome. This is honestly the best purple I’ve ever laid eyes on. As I said before though, you absolutely categorically need a coat of shiny topcoat for this polish, and the others in the Cocktail Colour collection. When I first applied Baby Bellini, I was far from wowed, as it looked like just another purple shimmer, and lay quite flat. But with just one coat of Revlon Quick Dry Topcoat and it looked almost 3D, wet and shiny, and best of all the duochrome came out in full glory. Have I waffled enough about this polish now? You’ll probably buy this just to shut me up, lol!
Application:
Baby Bellini required 3 thin coats for opacity. I know a lot of people hate to have to add a third coat but it’s not something that troubles me too much. It applied well, a couple of tiny streaks here and there where the brush had dragged the shimmer along but nothing the third coat didn’t sort out. And the third coat really is worth it for the extra depth to this royal purple beauty. It dries quickly, perhaps not quite in the ’60 seconds’ claimed on the back of the bottle but it certainly didn’t take long. Again I will mention that it dries quite dull in finish so USE A TOPCOAT :)))
I really feel like this nail polish has made me fall in love with purple again (which took a lot – having lived with sickly insipid sugary purple walls for a good 6 years or more I was ready never to lay eyes on purple ever again) but Baby Bellini has won me over. Perhaps it’s the cocktail imagery. (I don’t drink but I still appreciate a good cocktail when I see one!).
You can buy Baby Bellini, as well as Shirley Temple and Hawaiian Punch, from Superdrug (currently at £3.29 online) or from Boots, for just £3.99.
What do you think of Baby Bellini? Are there any good purple polishes I simply mustn’t miss out on, now that I’m a fan?
x
