Hello! π The latest collection from OPI is out, and I’ve surprised myself by liking a lot of them! Normally I’m not that fussed by their Soft Shades collections, but Soft Shades 2014 aka OPI Muppets Most Wanted has quite a few unique and pretty polishes in it, rather than just the standard sheer pinks and nudes. After my buying ban of the last few months, I treated myself to three, the first of which I want to show you today: Muppets World Tour. It’s VERY unique, I’ve never seen anything like it!
This is one coat of OPI Muppets World Tour layered over two coats of Graffiti Nails Butterfly Pink (more on Graffiti Nails soon!).
Muppets World Tour is a clear base, filled with all kinds of gold and silver microglitter, small white hexagonal glitter in two sizes, small metallic gold and silver hexagonal glitter, metallic gold, turquoise and magenta hexagonal glitter in a slightly larger size. The larger pieces of glitter are quite elusive, as you can see I don’t have many on my nails!
The finish is actually very similar to that of a Liquid Sand, or textured polish to the touch, and very shimmery and glittery in appearance. You can wear it two ways; either as a glitter topcoat layered over another colour, or you can layer it up alone. Personally I prefer it layered over another colour – I’m wearing it layered alone right now and although close up it’s pretty, I have to say my nails look slightly fungal from a distance and the layered finish is very chunky!
Application:
Used as a glitter topcoat, the application is easy breezy – one coat gives great coverage of glitter, dries quickly and to a sandy textured finish. 1-2 coats of topcoat leaves this smooth and shiny.
Used layered up alone I found this more tricky. I found the more you had on your nails, the harder it was to control the next coat and I ended up with a fair bit round my cuticles. It also takes 3 coats for full opacity which isn’t ideal for such a chunky glitter. (I know it doesn’t look chunky but trust me that microglitter builds up quickly!!). I found it took a good half an hour to fully dry and while the finish is sparkly, it looks quite dull from a distance. You will need a thick topcoat or a good few coats of thin topcoat to get this smooth and shiny.
It’s not often I say this but I think with this polish the ‘less is more‘ phrase is very appropriate… for me anyway – I feel like layered alone it’s just OTT and almost spoils the beauty of the polish, while layered it’s more subtle but reaches its best potential.
I bought my OPI Muppets World Tour from TNBL, which is a salon site that has fantastic discounts on OPI – mine cost Β£4.95+ VAT, and the postage is only Β£2.50. I’d definitely recommend having a look! Otherwise, you can buy OPI from Salon Services (Sallys), Lena WhiteΒ or most salon e-tailers.
What do you think of this glitter bomb?! π
