I am going to burn myself out like crazy this month, I’m doing two nail challenges…! (What was I thinking?!). Today I am showing you these antique-inspired nails as part of the ‘Three Nail Challenge‘, devised by the lovely ladies at Mateji Ustvarjata. The basic idea behind this challenge is that there are three themes: time, favourites and adjectives. We must create a look, based on the theme of the day, once every four days (see the blog post linked above for more details!). As you can tell, I missed the first theme, ‘antique’, but since it’s not quite time for the next design I guess it’s okay… sorry ladies!
I guess I had a faded gold antique mirror in mind, ones with a little colour damage or sun bleaching (we have one in the hall which I’m fairly sure isn’t antique but it fits my description, ha!). That’s the kind of thing which springs to my mind when I think about the word ‘antique’.
What I used:
- Barry M Black
- Barry M Moon Dust/Magnetic Sparkle Gold (not magnetised but in the basic polish form!)
- Boots 17 Fury
- Barry M Gold Glitter
- Color Club Top Coat
- Make up sponge
How I did it:
I basically painted 1 coat of Barry M Black on my nails – it didn’t need to be totally opaque as most would be covered by the gold sponging. I then took the corner of a make-up sponge and painted it with Barry M Moon Dust, and sponged it on about 3/4 of the nail, leaving the bottom of the nail (nearest the cuticle) pure black and creating a fading effect. I then repeated this process with Boots 17 Fury, this time concentrating on the top 1/2 of the nail. I followed by repeating the sponging with Barry M Gold Glitter, and finished with sponging on another layer of Barry M Moon Dust. I then added one coat of topcoat to even it out. Easy!
What do you think of when you think about the word ‘antique’? How would you incorporate it in a manicure?
