Day 8 of the 30 Days of Untrieds Challenge: metallic. To be honest I’m not really sure what qualifies as metallic as I’ve always referred to ‘metallic’ (in terms of car paint… lol) polishes as ‘shimmers’. So I decided that this one might just do for a metallic mani, but I don’t really know! These photos, like those of Topshop Eclipse, were taken on holiday a few weeks ago, hence the length discrepancy. Hypnotic is exactly that – my nails were pretty mesmerising!
These kinds of polishes make me think of unicorns and fairies, there’s something about the dreamy silver-pink-green duochrome that conjures up floaty whimsical images for me. Anyways, you may be forgiven for thinking this is very similar to Barry M Silvery Lilac or OPI Not Like The Movies – it is similar in that all three have a silver base with a pinky-purple/green duochrome and silver microglitter, but Hypnotic has a much stronger green duochrome while Silvery Lilac has a more lilac duochrome and Not Like The Movies is more pink. Hypnotic also has a tendency to look like a plain silver in certain dull lighting, and sometimes the duochrome is not very strong, which I don’t like so much, but the duochrome really makes it worth it when you can see it properly.
Application:
The polish is opaque in 3 coats, and has a slight tendency to show brushstrokes, so make sure you paint in straight lines from one end of your nail to the other. It takes a little while to dry which is unusual but you should be okay as long as you paint thin coats. The finish is not hugely shiny but this is one of those polishes that doesn’t really need a shine to look good, but a topcoat is a good idea for longevity.
Overall, despite the slight frustrations with application, I really love this polish (I didn’t when I first put it on at 9pm and couldn’t see any duochrome!) – the green is really beautiful and makes it unique in my collection. It is however a little pricey at £6.50 from Topshop online and instore, and I probably wouldn’t buy it again at that price. I think this would make a lovely pedicure for tanned toes though!
Would anybody like to see a Barry M Silvery Lilac/Topshop Hypnotic comparison? I’m afraid I sold my bottle of OPI Not Like The Movies as it wasn’t worth the £11 I bought it for!
