Rimmel Black Cab + Layering polishes!

It’s been a while… In fact I’ve even been absent from Twitter, and I don’t really have a reason. I’m sorry. Anyway, I hit 100 followers while I wasn’t on here – hello to my 100th follower: “evercouldbe” 🙂

I have for you today a very standard black creme, which, if you’ve been reading my blog posts carefully enough 😉 is probably my least favourite choice of nail polish, which is why I couldn’t leave it alone! In fact I only bought this polish to use as a base for nail art and layering. Enter Rimmel London Black Cab!

A very bog standard black: opaque in 2 coats, glossy, tacky. I just don’t like it! It really suits some people, but I’m just not one of those people! Oh, a word to the wise, this polish actually takes a fair while to properly dry, it was sheet-marks galore this morning!

So here are the layering polishes I used – these are all far too sheer to be used alone (i.e. they would NEVER reach opacity, believe me, I’ve tried!)

Left to right: 2true Glossywear Shade 2 (worn on my index finger), MaxFactor Nailfinity Extra Frost (middle finger), 2true Glossywear shade 10 (ring finger), Natural Collection Lunar Haze (pinkie finger).

Onto the beautiful pictures – there’s a few, I’m sorry! 😛

The final photo shows how the polishes look when in a dim light, i.e. in my bedroom which gets no sunlight whatsoever. I’m going to break these down into each layering polish for you.

  1. 2true Glossywear Shade No. 2 (index finger) – This is a glitter polish, but instead of a clear base it has purple/pink/blue duochrome shimmer in the base. It also has quite a uniquely-shaped silver glitter suspended in it, which spreads very evenly across the nail. The glitter is kind of linear and almost looks like tiny shreds of aluminium foil 🙂 it gives a very pretty, unique effect. It dries quickly and the effect is reached in one coat. This one looks amazing over pink, purple and blue polishes too 🙂 £1.99 from Superdrug.
  2. MaxFactor Nailfinity Extra Frost (middle finger) – This is a very pretty blue shimmer topcoat, which has tiny silver microshimmer particles throughout. The name is very apt – if you think of frost you think blue for icy and glistening icicles etc. I love this one. Dries fairly quickly and the effect is reached in one coat. This one looks amazing over purples, greys, blues etc. Absolutely beautiful. £5.99 from Boots or Superdrug or most large shops (e.g. Tesco).
  3. 2true Glossywear Shade No. 10 (ring finger) – This is a gorgeous green shimmer with a very purple base. I wish this one could be opaque in the bottle colour as it’s gorgeous! An amazing duochrome of purple and green. Over dark colours you tend to see the green shimmer with hints of a pinky-purple. It gives this lovely extra dimension to a polish. It’s so hard to describe haha! This looks gorgeous over pale colours too. Over white you see more of the bottle colour purple. This one dries quickly and creates the duochrome green in one coat. I love it! It kind of reminds me of that duochrome you get on some seaside shells and oyster shells and such 😛 £1.99 from Superdrug.
  4. Natural Collection Lunar Haze (pinkie finger) – This is a pearly purple-blue duochrome, it definitely leans more blue than the pictures let on. However it’s much more purple-y than MaxFactor’s Extra Frost. It has a very pearlescent finish, it’s probably the most work-appropriate of the four. This one, too, dries quickly and reaches the effect in one coat. £1.89 from Boots.
So overall, these are all very beautiful, affordable layering polishes, which really brighten up a tired or slightly chipped manicure. Definitely recommended! How about you guys – any good layering polishes to report?
I hope you are all doing well, I’m starting uni a week today so I’m getting tres nervous! I will be posting up a giveaway shortly to signify my lovely 100 followers, keep an eye out for it 😉

Updated Nail Polish Collection

This isn’t a showing off post, au contrare, I wish I had more – lol.

I thought that maybe for the benefit of you all I would put up some photos of my current collection, and say for example you want to see a picture of a particular polish I happen to own you can let me know in the comments box. I will also link pictures I have already taken when I name the polishes, if that makes any sense. Basically click the blue words if you want to see the pics.

Grouped by brand.

Here is my storage, I managed to find a large shoebox which will fit perfectly for the next 20 or so polishes, then I suppose I’ll have to move on to bigger and better boxes.
So this is going to seem like a tiny collection to certain among you who will no doubt have about ten times the amount that I do 😛 Believe you me I plan on expanding my collection for ever and always to the extent that income allows. Haha.

My experimental (as usual) face of the day :)

When I do my makeup, I usually don’t have anything in mind to begin with and just build up the colour on my eyelids according to what catches my eye at the particular moment in time.
Andy and I went to an 18th birthday party on Saturday, so here was my face for the occasion lol:
In the very natural, miserable typical English weathery light.. lol
Avec flash
Close-up with flash, so you can see the eyeliner 🙂
The completed face of me! As it looks when you look normally at me. I think.
I wanted to wear a slightly party-ish look that I could get away with during the day, but really, if I’m honest, that didn’t play much part in my decision since it wasn’t a decision, more of a faff around with available eyeshadow colours lol.
What I used (facially!):
  • Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Foundation (free sample in February edition of ELLE Magazine)
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow in “Strip” used over the main eyelid.
  • Natural Collection Fragrance-Free Eyeshadow in “Barley”, blended with the UD eyeshadow, and dusted over the browbone. Also used lightly on lower lash line.
  • PrettyPink Makeup Palette Eyeshadows in a pale shimmery camel colour blended over the brow bone, a pinky mauve blended into the outer corners and a rusty brown on my eyebrows. I also used a dark purple for the liquid eyeliner with the transforming potion.
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Transforming Potion (for eyeliner)
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in “Binge” worked into my lower lashes.
  • Urban Decay Big Fatty Waterproof Mascara
  • Natural Collection Juicy Lips Lip Gloss in “Pink Velvet”
On my nails (how could I leave them out!) :
Barry M Pure Turquoise 295 with N.Y.C. 105 Starry Silver Glitter over the top on my ring finger, just for a hint of partyishness 🙂
So as you can probably see, I have a little bit of an obsession with Urban Decay. But to be honest, it’s with good reason – all the products last forever on the skin, seem to have unlimited supply in the product, and aren’t tested on animals, all at a fairly reasonable price for their quality. My only qualms are with the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils, as I find they are all used up in a matter of weeks, due to their softness. Oh and the Eyeshadow Transforming Potion stings like aif you get it in your eyes but that doesn’t happen too often. And I’d rather it happened to me than the animals 🙂
Hope you all had a good weekend,

Nail Polish Collection As Of 13th January 2011

Considering I only had about 4 nail polishes at the beginning of December… I have gone a bit nail polish mental! 🙂 Maybe it’s just the colours, I hate routine and since buying/receiving all these polishes I have been changing them every day lol – until my nails split at which point I realised I should really consider the health of my nails before abusing them 😀 they are happy nails now though. So here we go:
L-R: GOSH 60 Lambada, Rio Nail Art Pen Red, Collection 2000 Hot Looks 29 Big Hair, Rimmel 60 Seconds 300 Movie Star, ChitChat Sweet Maple, Barry M 136, Rimmel Lasting Finish 050 Tangerine Queen, Rio Nail Art Pen Yellow.
L-R: ChitChat Seamoss, Barry M 290 Spring Green, Rio Nail Art Pen Green, Rimmel Lasting Finish 238 Forest, Collection 2000 Hot Looks 37 Bongo Beat, Boots 17 Fast Finish Peacock, Boots 17 Fast Finish Catwalk Couture, Barry M 295 Pure Turquoise.
L-R: Essie Lapis of Luxury, Barry M 294 Cyan Blue, Rio Nail Art Pen Blue, Barbara Daly Aqua Shimmer, 2True Glossywear Shade No. 14, Barry M 292 Navy, Barry M 312 Indigo, Barry M 161 Vivid Purple.
L-R: Barry M 308 Berry Ice Cream, Natural Collection Lunar Haze, Collection 2000 Hot Looks 42 Teeny Bikini, Barry M 165, Rio Nail Art Pen Metallic Pink, L’Oreal Resist & Shine 603, Unknown Makeup Palette Nail Polish.
L-R: Max Factor Nailfinity 882 Angel Nails, L’Oreal Resist & Shine 103, Maybelline Forever Strong Pro 76 French Manicure, Unknown Makeup Palette Nail Polish, Rimmel 60 Seconds 805 Grey Matter, Rio Nail Art Pen Metallic Silver.
L-R: ChitChat Starshine, NYC Long Wearing 105 Starry Silver Glitter, Max Factor Nailfinity 133 Extra Frost, Rio Nail Art Pen White, Rio Nail Art Pen Black, Sally Hansen Nail Shine Miracle Top Coat, Barry M 54 Basecoat Topcoat & Nail Hardener 3 in 1.
If you haven’t heard of ChitChat, it’s from Poundland (don’t judge me ;)) they aren’t actually that bad, they have a much nicer smell than most nail polishes (though I don’t know whether that means they are cheapie harmful fumes!!!) and they do look really lovely over the top of some polishes. They are too sheer really to wear alone, and I wouldn’t say they are of great staying quality! Hence why I would only use them over the top of another polish.

The two unknown polishes are from a makeup box given to me for my birthday last year, which I would definitely recommend. It isn’t tested on animals (BUAV approved), and the eyeshadows particularly are of fairly good quality considering the price. It’s called PrettyPink, and is (or was!) from Argos.
In total I think I have 42 coloured polishes and 2 Topcoat Basecoats, and I don’t think I’ll be stopping any time soon!
