Hey everyone today I have a beautiful summery colour for you – Models Own Gold Rush. It’s so bright and luxurious, I feel wealthy just wearing it! (Wishful thinking… lol!). Models Own isn’t a brand I get round to trying all that often because my local Boots doesn’t sell them, so I have to go all the way into the city to see the (somewhat bare) Models Own stand in the bigger Boots store. Hi everyone! I am SO excited to be back blogging! I feel it’s only fair to let you know what stopped me from blogging between November 24th and today. First of all, my laptop broke so there was physically no way for me to edit my photos – I borrowed Andy’s iPad for the month of December but couldn’t work out how to edit photos on it. This was resolved in January, when I bought a brand spanking new Acer laptop, which should have been the end of my problems. Next, we discovered there was a connection issue with my laptop, largely due to it only having out-of-date network drivers, so that took a good few days to fix. I then installed the latest update for WordPress, and something happened to my entire blog where the permalinks were all wrong and I couldn’t upload or edit any of my posts, which again would have been easily fixed but for the fact that when I changed my hosting package over, they put me on a new server but never sent across the login details so we couldn’t access my cPanel. Anyway, the whole thing took a good 2 weeks to fix but thanks to the hard work of Andy, Andy’s business partner and the people at 600host, Imagination in Colour is finally fixed!! I have so many images for so many blogposts it’s unreal… Look forward to lots of blogposts over the next few weeks! I’ve also added a little favicon (the flower you can see at the left of the tab for my page) for my site as well and will be working on a new logo!

Also a quick mention for my giveaway on Facebook – it was my 2 year bloggiversary on 13th January so in light of my blog’s problems I set up a giveaway on Facebook. Today I have Models Own Southern Lights to show you, released in October 2012 as part of the Models Own Wonderland Collection. All of the polishes are so pretty but I only chose two, you’ll have to wait for another post to find out which one 😉

Another polish from the Models Own Hedkandi Collection! This is probably the best-named polish I’ve come across, it very much fits the description and is rather thrilling, if you could call a polish thrilling (? Am I just a weirdo? Lol). You might need your sunglasses for this one, it is seriously, SERIOUSLY bright! If you can’t see the neon element, try tilting your laptop screen up an inch or two and you will get an idea of the neon factor! My camera seriously struggled to photo this one, lol.

Hedonist is a bright neon coral colour – you may have to take my word on how seriously neon it is, it’s eye-searingly bright. It also looks a little bit more orange in certain lights. The finish is somewhere between matte/vinyl, but I found my nails seemed to get more shiny on the second day of wear, interestingly enough!

Application:

Not even exaggerating, Hedonist was opaque in 1 coat. The pictures show 2 coats because I had a few application problems in terms of the formula – the polish is very thick which made the brush quite globby resulting in a rather messy application – you are likely to have to clean up after! Is it worth it? YES. You will not regret buying this polish. Hedonist is definitively a neon polish, and as with most neons, it dries matte (although, as I said before, it isn’t a true matte, it’s somewhere between matte and vinyl. The polish also became more shiny with wear). So if you hate matte you will need a top coat! The only other thing is that it will show nail imperfections -see my index finger for reference! If you have ridges on your nails and it bothers you, I’d recommend using a ridge-filler before applying this.

This polish has got me on a bit of a neon-kick, I’m keeping my eyes out for more neons and Models Own has totally won me over on this one. Hedonist will set you back £5, and is available from Boots. Also, most cosmetics are on 3 for 2 in Boots at the moment, so you could even get Hedonist as your ‘free’ 3rd item 😉 I did. I was not convinced by it in the bottle – it doesn’t look neon at all in the bottle, but don’t be fooled! I am definitely way more impressed by Hedonist than I was by Models Own Disco Heaven.

Have you tried Hedonist? If you’re a brights person, I TOTALLY would! It’s such an awesome Summer colour and is such a bizarre colour it will practically go with any outfit!

Last Easter I did mini egg nail art, so this year I was casting around for more inspiration. You know when you get the cute little chocolate eggs in coloured foil? That’s what inspired me this time. My camera seemed to be playing up a little, the second photo is a bit blurry (sorry!).

These were done with sellotape (lots of it!) for the straight lines and many many polishes…! Here’s what I used:

Another Models Own polish, this time from the new Hedkandi collection. Disco Heaven is a very pretty gold glitter topcoat with iridescent green-blue hexagonal glitter in the mix.

From my point of view, this is definitely a topcoat polish. At four coats it doesn’t quite cover the nail enough to wear alone – you can still distinctly make out the free edge, and the gold in the polish seems to give an orange cast to the nail, making it look more stained than it actually is. However I’m sure if you layered it up enough this wouldn’t be a problem. The blue, sadly, doesn’t really show up unless you are looking closely.

Application:

The 3rd and 4th photos show the polish at 3 coats –  not by any means opaque. Although like many glitters, the light reflection from the polish does help to disguise the nail beneath. The polish dried quickly, and also dried quite smooth. I guess this can be attributed to the small proportion of glitter to clear polish – the clear polish must help smooth things out, I think? So in that vein, I personally don’t see a need for a topcoat. Again with Models Own not being Big-3-free, the polish had a strong chemical smell, so I would recommend you apply it in a well ventilated area.

I did a little swatch of Disco Heaven over Rimmel London Black Cab – a plain black creme, to see if the iridescent blue glitter would show up better (you’ll have to excuse the mess that is my nails!) :

Sorry for the rubbish lighting – it was literally the only light in which I could capture the blue glitter in at all! Hopefully you can see it, a little bit? While I love the idea of the blue iridescent glitter, it’s just too pale for me and it only really shows up (in real life) under bright light – it’s just too subtle to make it this polish worth the £5 price tag, for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love the polish and a gold glitter is always a good staple, but if I was to design it, I’d put in opaque blue glitter and make sure it stands out against the rest of the gold glitter (oh and get rid of the Big-3!).

Maybe I’m just too fussy – what do you think about this one? I suppose another way to save yourself some pennies is if you already have Maybelline Flash Cosmic glitter polish and any old gold glitter top coat, this look is easily re-creatable.

Have you tried any of the Models Own Hedkandi polishes? What do you think of them? I also picked up ‘Hedonist’, a neon coral colour. I have yet to decide how much I like it! I do really like the look of ‘Ibiza Mix’ , but my Boots seems to be permanently sold out of it. I am also a big fan of all the companies really pushing the boundaries with nail polish lately, it feels like they just keep getting better and more unique! This Spring has been really good for we nail polish addicts, not so good for our purses…!
