First of all, welcome to my new layout! There are still a lot of tweaks I need to make, but it’s miles better now than how my blog looked 24hrs ago! (Please let me know if you all hate it, lol!)
You may remember Barry M Croc Effects in black, released last autumn. They announced the release of their new Burgundy Croc Effects four days ago on their Twitter page, followed by a picture of it over Barry M Silver Foil – I think a lot of us were sold on it! I picked it up in Superdrug on Saturday.
All the images above show one coat of Barry M Burgundy Croc Effects over two coats of Rimmel Your Majesty.
I think it’s a lot more pretty than I expected it to be! I had it in my head that this would be really stark and clashy but I was proved completely wrong. Burgundy Croc (if it was a normal nail polish) would be a raspberry-red jelly – if you put it on over a shimmer/glitter polish the shimmer carries through the raspberry colour of the polish.
Application:
Croc Effects must be put over touch-dry polish. Touch-dry polish is basically when your polish has been drying for 2-3 minutes or more and when you touch it, it doesn’t affect the finish of the polish, but it’s not dry enough that it wouldn’t dent or get sheet marks. This is essential as the effect will not appear on totally dry polish.
Here are a few things I noticed when applying Burgundy Croc:
- It isn’t as thick as Black Croc, which is good as I found Black Croc a tad tricky to apply due to its consistency.
- Burgundy Croc will look streaky when you apply it, but trust me, that really doesn’t affect the final finish.
- The Croc Effect takes different amounts of time to work dependent on what nail polish you use as a base – not too significant but bear it in mind before you start to worry it isn’t working!
- The finished effect sometimes wrinkles, I have no idea why! Maybe a topcoat would help.
- The Croc Effect does take a good 3-5 mins to appear, sometimes more.
- The finish feels very rubbery. It doesn’t seem to be an indication of the dryness of the polish as I did a lot of heavy duty things with my nails and the finish was still intact.
- It dries to a high shine – no need for a topcoat unless you want it to last longer.
I decided to try it over several different colours to see what the best combinations might be. I tried many more on a nail wheel so these are the best of those I tried. I’ve included a photo of the base colours for reference as most of them haven’t appeared on my blog yet!
Thumb to pinkie: Barry M Silver Foil, Barry M Yellow, Barry M Tangerine, Barry M Gold, Barbara Daly Starlight.
Thumb to pinkie: Barry M Matt White, Barry M Lilac Foil, Sally Hansen HD Blu, Topshop Eclipse, L’Oreal Resist & Shine 103.
My favourite combos have to be the ones with Barry M Lilac Foil, Topshop Eclipse, Barry M Yellow and Barry M Gold.
Will you be buying this? It looks rather fabulous on, and yet another easy nail art look. Barry M Burgundy Croc is priced at £3.99 and can be found in Superdrug and on BarryM.com.
