Revlon Top Speed – Hazy

So, they’ve FINALLY brought Revlon Top Speeds to the UK! They still haven’t brought Revlon Royal over though, 🙁 I reaaally want it haha. Anyways, I picked up two of the Top Speed polishes (I’m currently lusting over Revlon Guava too, think I may have to splurge on it next time I have the money!) one of which is Hazy!

Was this worth Revlon’s fairly large £6.49 price tag? Personally, I don’t think so. I have to be honest, I bought this when it was on offer in Boots at £4.49, so I didn’t pay full price. I probably wouldn’t have bought it otherwise. Because while the formula and finish is nice, I don’t think it’s a unique enough colour to pay £6.49 for. Anyway. It’s unfortunately no longer on offer, but Boots has an offer on at the moment of 3 for 2 on a lot of beauty items, including Revlon.

Dry time was good, although I have to say, for a ‘top speed’ polish, it wasn’t exactly top speed! I’d say it was probably comparable to the speed at which Rimmel I <3 Lasting Finish polishes dry. In any case, it was manageable, certainly a lot better than the normal line of Revlon polishes I’ve used!

The polish is quite opaque, this took just 2 coats. I can’t really fault it, there’s nothing wrong with it,  I suppose I’m just not so keen on the price! Oh and I have this pet hate with Revlon polishes, when you put the brush back in the bottle, it scrapes the glass at the mouth and that scraping noise is just so… arrrghh. I hate when nail technicians on YouTube dip the brush in and out in and out scrape scrape scrape *cringe*. Ever since I’m so careful not to make the noise haha.

My only other tiny qualm is that it was a little trickier than some polishes to keep the start of the polish near the cuticle neat, but that’s easy to fix with some cleanup.

I did a tiny comparison of Hazy with Rimmel London Grey Matter for you guys 🙂 I compared them in the shop, I really hate to waste my money buying dupes!

Rimmel Grey Matter is shown on my ring finger. So Hazy is a fair couple of shades lighter than Grey Matter, as you can hopefully see. Grey Matter is more concrete, Hazy is more breeze blocks haha.

My general feelings about Hazy are that if you’re a grey hoarder, it’s a good grey to have,  very work-appropriate, quite sophisticated etc etc but it’s not a very unique colour for the price you pay. Though I suppose it depends on how much you love it as to whether the price matters! For a poor student like me… it really does 😛

I think I’m guilty of being taken in by Revlon’s pretty polish names, “Hazy”, “Stormy”, “Cloud” – all fairly standard coloured polishes but somehow the name just makes me want them!!

I know I keep promising this giveaway guys but I can’t find the polish I really really wanted to give away – would you rather a giveaway minus that one polish or would you rather wait til I have it, making the total up to 6 polishes?

I hope you’re all doing good, anyone else starting university in the next few weeks? I start on Tuesday, I’m soooooo nervous haha.

Revlon 095 Facets of Fuchsia

Behold a beautiful Deborah Lippmann Bad Romance near-dupe, for the very reasonable price of £6.49:

So, this one zoomed straight into my favourite ever nail polishes ever. It’s amazing! I can’t fault it. I saw it in Superdrug and nearly fell over with how amazing it looked 😀 it’s part of their new line, dontcha know.
Facets of Fuchsia is basically a green-black-grey jellyish base which builds to a solid black at about 3-4 coats. In the pictures I have 3 coats on. Pink (or fuchsia) hexagonal glitter is suspended in the base along with a lot of very fine glitter of the same colour. The glitter spreads fairly evenly although it’s worth bearing in mind that all your nails will look different – it’s just about impossible to spread the glitter identically for each nail. There’s a nice amount of the hexagonal glitter – not so much that it drowns the smaller glitter out and not so little that you end up with none on one nail. Spot on!
Application-wise, the polish was easy to spread and was dense at 2 coats, but needed a third to get the base to opacity. It dried quickly so that wasn’t a problem. My only issue was that it was a little difficult to control the brush – I’d recommend you slap the polish all over and don’t bother with neatness, just leave that to when you do cleanup (I can hear the polish addicts gasping as I write this) I know it’s sacrilege but black looks so messy unless you do a proper cleanup anyway (note the areas around my cuticles *cringe*) You might as well make sure the whole nail’s covered and work backwards. Or at least that’s my theory.
My only other niggle is that it doesn’t dry totally evenly. It’s pretty impressive given all the glitter in it, but I put on a topcoat and it looks even more fabulous. For your interest, I have topcoat on all fingers except my left ring finger.
So Revlon have redeemed themselves for now (see my previous Revlon let-down) and I would fully one million percent recommend Facets of Fuchsia to all of you. Particularly since it is so very similar to Deborah Lippmann’s Bad Romance – you could get two bottles of the Revlon and it still wouldn’t cost as much as one bottle of Bad Romance! Unless you’re a die-hard DL fan.
I have some lovely China Glazes coming up for you, along with the best BeautyUK polish in existence (in my humble opinion). I also picked up one of the GOSH Ltd Edition polishes of this Autumn, so that should be up soon! Thank you all so much for your lovely comments congratulating me on my A level results, it’s so lovely of you all and each one made me smile that little bit wider 😀 Hope you are all well my lovely readers, until next time!

Updated Nail Polish Collection

This isn’t a showing off post, au contrare, I wish I had more – lol.

I thought that maybe for the benefit of you all I would put up some photos of my current collection, and say for example you want to see a picture of a particular polish I happen to own you can let me know in the comments box. I will also link pictures I have already taken when I name the polishes, if that makes any sense. Basically click the blue words if you want to see the pics.

Grouped by brand.

Here is my storage, I managed to find a large shoebox which will fit perfectly for the next 20 or so polishes, then I suppose I’ll have to move on to bigger and better boxes.
So this is going to seem like a tiny collection to certain among you who will no doubt have about ten times the amount that I do 😛 Believe you me I plan on expanding my collection for ever and always to the extent that income allows. Haha.

Revlon 040 Fuchsia Fever

Trust me, it’s not as glossy as it looks.
Here is Revlon Fuchsia Fever – a bright, Barbie pink. I’m cursing myself for ever succumbing to the 2 for £8 offer on all Revlon polishes in Boots, because both the polishes I bought turned out to be utter disasters. I’ll tell you more about Blue Lagoon when I next decide to torture my nails with it.
Fuchsia Fever was the lesser of the two disasters, and I suppose it would have been lovely had it not have been for the pooling around my cuticles (hence the mess – it irritated me all day and I couldn’t stop picking at it!) and the awful sheet marks. In fairness – I suppose – I did only leave about 30 mins between applying the second coat and going to sleep but even so.
Otherwise, the polish is dry to the touch fairly quickly and has a lovely finish (apart from the pooling). The formula is very runny, but still pigmented if you get me. The brush is tiny, very thin, which made it a little difficult to ensure and even application, particular if you have wider nail beds like mine.
Overall I’m not impressed, given that Revlon polishes are usually £6.49 ish in Boots, which to me is fairly steep considering you can get polishes with much better formula and dry-time for half the price. Also I’ve never felt that Revlon have produced many unique colours, unlike Max Factor, who for that reason I would justify spending that amount on a pain of a polish, but this colour must have one million and one identical siblings.
Sad day for Revlon 🙁
Hope you are all well, I went on a bit of a shopping splurge today and also managed to get my Andy to wear eyeshadow for all of 5 minutes this morning! To be fair I did do one eye purple and one green, I can kind of understand his misgivings.
I’m considering doing another post on my entire collection because, well, I have exactly 99 polishes now and 7 more somewhere in the post (an ongoing nightmare – Royal Mail are fast becoming my least favourite people) would any of you be interested in it? I was thinking that then you could ask me if you wanted to see pics of any particular polish I haven’t already done, and it would give me an idea of what you guys like to see 🙂 Let me know! 😀

Easter Mini Egg Nail Art

Gigantic jar of mini eggs and choccys – yum!
What I used:
– Rimmel Stronger Double Duty Base Coat
– Barry M 307 Lemon Ice Cream
– Revlon 044 Blue Lagoon
-Revlon 040 Fuchsia Fever
– GOSH 571 Wild Lilac
– Barry M 310 Mushroom
– Rimmel Lycra Pro Matte Finish
– Cocktail Stick
You can probably guess that I did 2-3 coats of each colour, and used Barry M’s Mushroom on the end of a cocktail stick to make the brown dots, then finished it off with a coat of Matte top coat. 🙂
I love Mini Eggs, particularly the colours and matte-like finish of them, has always reminded me of Easter.
Reviews of the polishes shown will be coming up 🙂
I hope you all have a good one 😀
