NYC Top Of The Gold

Happy Blogmas day 5! Here is another victim from my Bournemouth splurge. I have long ogled over the beautiful luxuriant ‘gold leaf manicures’… but something about them left a little to be desired, for me at least. Maybe it’s the starkness of the gold, I’m not quite sure, but I definitely wasn’t ready to hop on the bandwagon at up to £30 a pop for OPI’s Man With The Golden Gun. Especially because you can quite easily apply gold leaf on it’s own and cover with topcoat for a fraction of the price.

However, I came across a little beauty during my perusal, and I fell in love! It’s not actually gold, but it looks pretty enough, and at £1.99 this polish knocks OPI’s socks off in my opinion.

Sparkly City Nails!

I wore GOSH’s Midnight Blue (a slightly darker version of Nails Inc. Chandos Place) with my prom dressfor my cousin’s wedding party last weekend, which was absolutely lovely and so nice to have all my family together in one place after so long 🙂 The next day, after 3 days of wear, Midnight Blue was starting to show some tipwear so I decided to brighten it up a bit with LOTS of glitter!

So basically I had 2 coats of Midnight Blue, then I added 1 coat of Petticoat Lane to give the pink glitter, and then 1 coat of Starry Silver Glitter to add the holographic glitter and blue and pink hexagonal glitter pieces 😀
It’s so hard to capture the true glittery beauty of this, but the glitter really doesn’t look as stark as the photos make out. To me it reminded me of when you look out over London late at night, with all the beautiful multicoloured lights. Just missing the London Eye 😉 they also reminded me of fireworks. I love love loved wearing this manicure 😀
Hope you’re all doing well, it was my birthday yesterday so I’ll probably be having a birthday post coming up soon, I got some amazing gifts (not all nail polish! haha) and I had a lovely time today spending some of my birthday money. I also bought some fabulous makeup brushes, so look out for a review of them 😉
My GlossyBox arrived early yesterday morning, which was an amazing birthday treat, as I’m sure all of you will have heard by now, this month’s box was amazing! I personally have loved all of the boxes so far, but I know that a lot of people have unsubscribed after receiving a Batiste can, which frankly didn’t bother me because really, compared with the prices of the other things in the box, they really made up for it! But never mind. I just find it a shame to see all the bitching about such a young company on Twitter. It’s true social networking can really make or break a company 🙁 Anyhoo, see you all soon my bloggy friends 🙂

Updated Nail Polish Collection

This isn’t a showing off post, au contrare, I wish I had more – lol.

I thought that maybe for the benefit of you all I would put up some photos of my current collection, and say for example you want to see a picture of a particular polish I happen to own you can let me know in the comments box. I will also link pictures I have already taken when I name the polishes, if that makes any sense. Basically click the blue words if you want to see the pics.

Grouped by brand.

Here is my storage, I managed to find a large shoebox which will fit perfectly for the next 20 or so polishes, then I suppose I’ll have to move on to bigger and better boxes.
So this is going to seem like a tiny collection to certain among you who will no doubt have about ten times the amount that I do 😛 Believe you me I plan on expanding my collection for ever and always to the extent that income allows. Haha.

NYC 224B Times Square

Bottle comparison against 2 pinks (17 Pink Grapefruit and Barry M Strawberry Ice Cream), a cerise (No.7 Cherry Tang) and a coral (BeautyUK Coral Surprise), to show you how it leans to a pinky coral colour, not quite orange-toned enough for true coral.
And again, not quite pink, not quite coral.
All hail the mighty polish, this one is fab and cheap to boot. I wasn’t particularly looking for this polish, but I’ve been in the mood for this sort of colour ever since the sun came out 🙂 I have only tried the NYC Starry Silver Glitter polish from NYC so wasn’t totally sure what to expect, but for £2.59 I could not complain!
The polish was opaque in two coats, although out of habit I added a second, which I regretted when I woke up this morning with a couple of sheet marks, and as a result what you are seeing is actually 3 coats. However, the polish is very pigmented, and applies beautifully. Think Barry M opacity and consistency. The polish is dry to the touch in a couple of minutes, which is why I really like it. I adore Barry M but some of them just take YEARS to dry, so this is a dream. The finish is glossy and the colour is gorgeous, I’m not going to push the boat out so far as to say it’s unique but for the price, it certainly has few rivals 🙂
Hope you are all okily dokily, I went on a little shopping spree yesterday and managed to pick up Barry M’s new polish, Blue Moon, I am desperate to try it but want longer nails for when I post photos as I feel it deserves maximum limelight 🙂 Also got 3 more mystery Barry M polishes (ones you will have seen before, no doubt).
Just off to take pics of my collection 🙂

My experimental (as usual) face of the day :)

When I do my makeup, I usually don’t have anything in mind to begin with and just build up the colour on my eyelids according to what catches my eye at the particular moment in time.
Andy and I went to an 18th birthday party on Saturday, so here was my face for the occasion lol:
In the very natural, miserable typical English weathery light.. lol
Avec flash
Close-up with flash, so you can see the eyeliner 🙂
The completed face of me! As it looks when you look normally at me. I think.
I wanted to wear a slightly party-ish look that I could get away with during the day, but really, if I’m honest, that didn’t play much part in my decision since it wasn’t a decision, more of a faff around with available eyeshadow colours lol.
What I used (facially!):
  • Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Foundation (free sample in February edition of ELLE Magazine)
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow in “Strip” used over the main eyelid.
  • Natural Collection Fragrance-Free Eyeshadow in “Barley”, blended with the UD eyeshadow, and dusted over the browbone. Also used lightly on lower lash line.
  • PrettyPink Makeup Palette Eyeshadows in a pale shimmery camel colour blended over the brow bone, a pinky mauve blended into the outer corners and a rusty brown on my eyebrows. I also used a dark purple for the liquid eyeliner with the transforming potion.
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Transforming Potion (for eyeliner)
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in “Binge” worked into my lower lashes.
  • Urban Decay Big Fatty Waterproof Mascara
  • Natural Collection Juicy Lips Lip Gloss in “Pink Velvet”
On my nails (how could I leave them out!) :
Barry M Pure Turquoise 295 with N.Y.C. 105 Starry Silver Glitter over the top on my ring finger, just for a hint of partyishness 🙂
So as you can probably see, I have a little bit of an obsession with Urban Decay. But to be honest, it’s with good reason – all the products last forever on the skin, seem to have unlimited supply in the product, and aren’t tested on animals, all at a fairly reasonable price for their quality. My only qualms are with the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils, as I find they are all used up in a matter of weeks, due to their softness. Oh and the Eyeshadow Transforming Potion stings like aif you get it in your eyes but that doesn’t happen too often. And I’d rather it happened to me than the animals 🙂
Hope you all had a good weekend,
Emma xxx
