Barry M Pacific

Hey everyone! It’s another one from the Barry M Aquarium  today! I am all over this collection seriously – I’m not sure whether it’s been my resisting buying for so long or whether they really are amazing, but I am loving them!! Here is my second favourite of the duochromey ones – Pacific (following the water theme!)

I feel like I’ve seen this colour before in a polish but I don’t own any like it so I’m fine with that. 🙂 I do love a good teal polish! A quick note on the pictures – my camera picked up the brush stroke pattern really well (sometimes high definition isn’t such a good thing I suppose!) but basically the polish doesn’t look as brush-strokey in person as it does in the pics. But no matter what I did, it wasn’t happening through the lens!

Barry M Caspian

Hello everyone! I am unbelievably excited to be showing you the Barry M Aquarium Collection this week. As I’ve mentioned before, we’ve been pinching the pennies for a little while, so things like nail polish have taken a slightly inferior seat recently compared to things like food and rent! However now I’m working and had my first payslip I’ve been able to treat myself to the new collection, which I’ve been lusting after since the moment I saw they were coming out!!

The Aquarium Collection has been the top of my list (you know how I feel about my beloved Barry M!) because while duochromes have been ‘in’ for a good 2 years, brands seem to keep releasing the same colours – however I spotted at least two which look totally unique to me in this collection! So on Friday I visited Boots and Superdrug… because I felt like if I bought 12 polishes in one go I’d be exposed for the true addict I am…! So I got 6 from each (which still raised two sets of eyebrows… but I needed them!!) as they had virtually the same offer on (Boots buy one get one half price and Superdrug two for £6 on all £3.99 Barry M Nail Paints).

Picture Polish Gravity

So I’m finally at the last of the Picture Polish Limited Edition Collection… these polishes are just too beautiful for words. The funny thing is, is that this time 2 years ago I’d have hated them because I hated layering, and yet these are honestly some of the most amazing duochromes and multichromes I own! The collection consists of 5 layering polishes: Altered State, Aurora, Gravity, Illusionist and Solar Flare.

I so nearly DIDN’T get Solare Flare and Gravity because I wasn’t sure I liked them, but I am so glad I did. Amazing amazing amazing!

Picture Polish Solar Flare

Hello lovelies! I have a little confession to make… I think you probably knew as well as I did that I wasn’t going to be able to resist getting the last two from the Picture Polish Limited Edition Collection. Might as well get it out in the open – I am now the proud (and broke) owner of all 5. I didn’t even LIKE Solar Flare in online swatches, but I just couldn’t resist the temptation… le sigh, what is life etc etc. Last week I showed you Aurora, Illusionist and Altered State, and now I have Solar Flare, and Gravity… 🙂 No judging here please 😉

Barry M Silvery Lilac

I’m slowly getting my way through these new Barry M’s, so gorgeous that I don’t actually want to take them off my nails!! So far I have reviewed Denim, Copper and Teal. Today I have for you Silvery Lilac, which leaves just Black Multi-Glitter to do!

Silvery Lilac is a very gorgeous whimsical kind of polish, much like OPI Not Like The Movies (see comparison at the end of this post!). I’ll let the pictures do the talking:

As you can see, this is no ordinary silver duochrome… Silvery Lilac seems to alternate in different lights between a silvery-grey, a pinky-purple shimmer and a green shimmer, whilst also having the effect of a duochrome in that it looks different depending on the angle you look at it. Dare I call it, a mythical multichrome? It seems to me to be a silvery-grey base, packed with green and pinky-purple shimmer as well as some silver micro-glitter, which adds to the sparkle. Silvery Lilac is beautifully shiny, too, the only reason I put topcoat on was because I accidentally added fingerprints to my nails and didn’t think it was all that nice! Silvery Lilac makes me think of unicorns and beautiful pastel colours and My Little Pony. Lol.

Application:

The photos show 3 coats, although quite honestly it was pretty much opaque at 2. The polish is quite thick, but it doesn’t seem to affect it’s drying time, it actually dried fairly quickly. It does make applying thin coats a little tricky though. It dries to a high shine, so no topcoat necessary.

I did initially think that this one would be very similar to OPI Not Like The Movies. It is similar… but they definitely aren’t dupes. Not Like The Movies errs on the side of frost (it’s more brushstrokey), is a lot more sheer, a lot paler and has much more pink shimmer than Silvery Lilac, whose shimmer is distinctly more purple and base is a lot deeper. Not to mention Silvery Lilac is much more opaque (can you tell which one I prefer?)

Index and ring fingers: OPI Not Like The Movies, 3 coats. Middle and pinkie fingers: Barry M Silvery Lilac, 3 coats.

(Sorry this is the best photo I could get, the sun had gone down by this point, I will do a better one in the near future!)

What do you think? Is Silvery Lilac unique enough for you? Which do you prefer – Not Like The Movies or Silvery Lilac? For me, Barry M wins hands down on price, colour payoff, colour itself and finish. Sooo pretty!
