Hello everyone! Hope you’ve had a happy Easter, or bank holiday weekend, or whatever you celebrate/don’t celebrate ๐ I received these new Sweetie Heart nail polishes from Rimmel a couple of weeks ago (unfortunately I’ve been so busy job-hunting, I have got a little behind with my schedule!) and I’ve been trying them out. They seem so perfect for spring, I hope you’ll agree ๐
The Sweetie Heart collection is an all-matte collection, consisting of 5 pastel-type shades. I think the theme is based on the ‘Love Hearts’ sweeties made by Swizzels Matlow – the ones with phrases like ‘kiss me’ on them ๐
This is a very delicate pastel pink colour – it’s so pale it’s almost an off-white (as you can see from the white cap!). I have to say it’s not too flattering on a pink-toned skin colour such as mine, especially when it’s cold and my skin becomes flushed, but I think this will look wonderful as the warmer weather creeps in and certainly on darker skin tones than mine!
Application:ย This nail polish (as well as all the others in this collection) doesn’t do well with basecoat, for some reason it splits when used over basecoat so for all of them I’d recommend you don’t use any.ย This shows 2 coats of Cheeky Girl – for full opacity. It doesn’t self level well so try to keep an even coverage throughout. It dries quickly, and the matte finish is great.
002 Chase Me
This is a lovely seafoam green colour – my favourite! It’s cool enough to be very flattering even on my lobster hands, so I’ll be wearing this one a lot!
Application: Again this doesn’t seem to agree with basecoat, so I’d advise not to use it. It applies nicely but again doesn’t self-level, so try to keep application even. It dries quickly, to a matte finish. 2 coats here.
003 Cheeky Chap
This is a middle sky blue colour. It’s a pretty colour – I think an excellent base colour for nail art.
Application:ย Again I’d advise against using basecoat, as it doesn’t seem to agree with the polish. This one doesn’t self level at all well and I found it pretty thick – it’s a bit finicky to apply. A little thinner helped me, although being that it’s quite a cheap nail polish I don’t know that it’s worth it if I’m being brutally honest. It takes 2 coats for opacity.
004 Love Bug
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know I’m not a mad fan of yellows, although this is actually quite pretty. It reminds me of chicks and ducklings! ๐
Application: This nail polish has a surprisingly good application, for a yellow – again basecoat doesn’t seem happy with it, but it seems to self-level fairly well and is totally opaque at 2 coats. Dries nice and quickly to a matte finish ๐
005 You’re Mine
You may be surprised to learn that I really love this peachy colour – it’s SUPER flattering on me and that’s pretty unusual for a peachy shade. This is my favourite of all the collection.
Application:ย This polish has a nice consistency, although it too doesn’t agree with base coat. It self-levels a little better than the others, although I’d still recommend keeping application nice and even. This is 2 coats, and dries quickly to a nice matte finish.
Overall
I’m not a huge fan of the quality of these nail polishes, but the finish of them is nice. They cost ยฃ3.99 which I think is perhaps a little steep given that they aren’t all that great on application, but Rimmel nail polishes are often on 3 for 2 offer in Boots, where they are available, so they may be a little cheaper around the year.
My personal picks are Chase Me and You’re Mine ๐
For your info – I’ve tried using these forย stamping, but they dry too quickly to transfer across so unfortunately it’s a no go I’m afraid. They do make nice base colours for nail art though :).
Let me know what you think of these in the comments!
