Happy Blogmas day 5! Here is another victim from my Bournemouth splurge. I have long ogled over the beautiful luxuriant ‘gold leaf manicures’… but something about them left a little to be desired, for me at least. Maybe it’s the starkness of the gold, I’m not quite sure, but I definitely wasn’t ready to hop on the bandwagon at up to £30 a pop for OPI’s Man With The Golden Gun. Especially because you can quite easily apply gold leaf on it’s own and cover with topcoat for a fraction of the price.
However, I came across a little beauty during my perusal, and I fell in love! It’s not actually gold, but it looks pretty enough, and at £1.99 this polish knocks OPI’s socks off in my opinion.
This is gold at it’s absolute best, in my opinion. I love that it’s gold several tones of gold at play, and many shapes as well. In fact I believe the particles are mylar flake, which gives a more multi-faceted effect than the standard gold leaf topcoat. It’s also interesting that I haven’t seen any pure gold mylar flakies, usually they are coloured, so this is a unique polish in my collection. It makes me think of dragon eggs 🙂
Application:
This is one coat of NYC Top of the Gold over 4 coats of Bourjois Ghost Lovers. I adore this combination! I found the polish flowed easily, with even coverage. It would probably take a while to get opaque, as this is a topper, although I feel that you could probably get an opaque finish with a good few coats. It dried quickly to an even finish, but I think it looks best with a top coat.
NYC Top of the Gold is available at Superdrug for £1.99, where they are also on 3 for 2 offer currently.
This type of polish really gets me in the Christmassy mood, I love wearing festive nails at this stage of the season! What is your favourite festive polish?
