Barry M Lychee Gelly - Imagination In Colour

Barry M Lychee Gelly

As I said in my review of Barry M Green Berry, it is taking me AGES to work through the new Barry M releases but I’m getting there! I have ‘Lychee’ to show you today, which is part of the four new Gelly Nail Paints released by Barry M, in the colours Green Berry, Lychee, Papaya and Dragonfruit as part of their Spring 2013 collection.

Now, I’m not usually one for nude nails, but sometimes it is nice to just take a break from all the brights and darks and glitters and various shades of polish, and just have nice, clean looking nude nails. I probably wear nude polish once every blue moon but I think when I feel the need, Lychee will probably my new go-to nude! I also have some heels from Asda which are identical in colour and finish!

Just by the way, my hands didn’t look that pink in person, I think my camera just likes to pull all the pink out because of the paleness of the polish. But anyway, I’m quite fussy with my nudes, they can’t be too yellow because my fingers do have a bit of a tendency to look pink so yellow-y nudes look quite insipid with my skin tone. But Lychee is quite safe – it’s kind of a beige-putty type colour, it has a touch of yellow but not too much. It’s a lovely pure creme finish which just looks so clean!

Application:

The first coat of Lychee applied really well, it went on smoothly and was a touch streaky but we can forgive it for being the first coat! It was largely opaque but for the few streaks. The second coat was a little trickier as it’s quite a thick polish, so just be careful to try and paint each nail with only three strokes (middle, left and right) to avoid pulling the polish. It dries to a gorgeous high shine, and also dries relatively quickly. In general it self-levels quite easily, but if you load up the brush too much sometimes it ends up leaving a ridge where the excess polish has collected.

Overall I really like Lychee, I was pleased to see Barry M bringing out an opaque nude at last, and I’m glad to have a nude that actually looks nice against my skin tone! The only similar polish I have in my collection is Oh My GOSH Nude Champagne, which is a little bit more pink-toned and slightly darker than Lychee.

What do you think? Are you into nude polish or only on special occasions?

You can buy Barry M Lychee from Boots.com where they are currently on offer (buy 2 Barry M Nail Paints and save £1) and Superdrug.com where they are also on offer (buy 2 for £6), as well as instore and at Barrym.com, for a very reasonable £3.99!
