Hey all 🙂 I’ve got a super super pretty flakie to show you! I’ve always loved flakies but lately I’ve started to feel like all the supposedly ‘new’ flakies are just reproductions of previous ones (for example, Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure, GOSH Rainbow, Color Club Snow Flakes, Nubar 2010, Essie Shine of the Times… etc.). Even the Zoya flakies weren’t altogether original, and the Nails Inc ones certainly weren’t. So I’m happy to report that Crystal Glaze is probably the most original one I’ve yet seen 🙂 with the possible exception of the (pricey and hard-to-get) Nfu-Ohs :).
As always, flakies are best used as a topper, especially over darker colours as the colours of the flakes will really pop against the dark background. I used 2 coats of the new Barry M Berry Cosmo as my ‘underwear’ :).
All the photos show one coat of Crystal Glaze over Berry Cosmo. I love this combination and I REALLY love how many colours are present in the flakie. I’m certain I can see purple, blue, green, orange, pink and yellow… sooo pretty! I’ve seen a multi-coloured flakie before but somehow the colour combination on that didn’t look so great. This is gorgeous. It looks especially pretty in natural light, the bright colours disappear a little in artificial light. I can tell this is one I’ll be wearing all autumn :).
The flakes are randomly shaped – not something I usually like because sometimes larger ones can stick up but these are all relatively small and well-behaved, and I like how the mix of shapes and colours gives it an eclectic feel. The polish looks orange tinted in the bottle but this doesn’t come across on the nail.
Application:
Easy peasy. I used one coat which gave fab coverage (as a topper), the polish went on smoothly with no dragging issues, and dried to an even and shiny finish. Again, I don’t think this would work well without a base colour to make the flakes pop as they are slightly translucent.
I’m in LOVE with this flakie, I’ve honestly never been more excited about a flakie, I feel like Crystal Glaze is really bringing something new to the table and it’s perfect for Autumn Winter. What do you think of it?
Barry M Crystal Glaze will be available from 25th September in Superdrug and from 2nd October in Boots, and will cost just £3.99 🙂
