Rimmel London Movie Star

So here’s where I’m going to get caught out using older pictures! In my last post, my nails were as short as they are now, as I had a practical exam (which I passed by the way – woo!) and the eagle-eyed among you will notice that my nails are long in this post! Well it’s because I’m a bad blogger and I’m backlogging. Sorry! ๐Ÿ˜›

I bought this lovely one last year, at the beginning of December, and it pretty much marked the beginning of my interest (read: obsession) with nail polish!

Movie Star is one of those colour-shifters… in most lights it looks a very pinky-red, then occasionally it will appear a very orange toned red which makes no sense! It’s kind of a foily-glitter polish, certainly very interesting and quite unique. What I like about it is that it’s festive but without being quite so ‘out-there’ as a true glitter. Also it is a lot more easy to apply and remove than a true glitter!

It was practically opaque in one-coat, but I added a second just to be sure. As it’s a 60-second polish, surprise surprise, it dried really quickly. Usually super fast dry-time = streaky draggy mess, but Movie Star has that lovely foily consistency which doesn’t seem to drag, so it’s a big bonus!

The brush is quite wide, which for me is a bonus as it means less dabbing around trying to cover my whole nail, but I know a lot of people with slimmer nails will find it a pain.

All in all I LOVE this polish, it’s so pretty and eye-catching without being as OTT as glitter (can’t believe I am saying this, as a full-time glitter addict!) and it’s lovely for Christmas time and New Years!

I’ve finished my first semester now, exciting! This means I will hopefully have a lot more time to blog for 3 weeks, before going on placement for 6 weeks. I’m very very happy at the moment, things are going wonderfully ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you are all feeling as good as me! Oh and my GlossyBox came on Thursday, my favourite box so far ๐Ÿ˜€ you will be seeing a very special something from it on my blog in the next few days!

Have you entered my giveaway? Only 2 days left now!

Barry M Ltd Edition Silver Glitter Effects

So after doing my blog post on Barry M Lilac Foil Effects from Superdrug, a few days later I wandered into Boots and lo and behold, Boots are doing a Ltd Edition Boots exclusive Barry M too! The offer is identical – spend ยฃ6 or more on any Barry M products and get Silver Glitter for free, or just buy it alone for ยฃ3.99.

One thing has me totally confused about this polish… The lid has a holographic sticker on, implying the polish is holographic… however, it is just literally a silver glitter top coat. Observe:

See what I mean? The name on the base is ‘Silver Glitter’, so I don’t really know where the holographic lid sticker came from. Maybe it’s for eye-catching-ness.

I’ve literally just put this on over my naked nails, hence the yucky stainage ๐Ÿ˜› I did 1 coat on my pinkie, 2 coats on my ring finger, 3 on my middle finger and 4 on my index finger, to show you the opacity (or lack of!). I think realistically this is best suited as a topcoat, because at 4 coats it still isn’t totally opaque.

Silver Glitter dried quickly which is good, especially if you want to wear it alone as a silver glitter polish… you can afford to rush it ๐Ÿ˜›ย At one coat the polish is quite smooth as it’s mostly a clear base with random bits of glitter, but with the increasing amount of coats comes the increasing amount of glittery grittiness so you will need a nice thick topcoat if grittiness bothers you. The glitter is very sparkly without a topcoat.

Oh and by the way, it’s really a lot more sparkly than my pictures let on, it’s because my nails are quite curved that my camera can’t pick up the reflection on the sides, but I promise it is sparkly all over!

So this is a lovely holiday/party/Christmas season polish as it’s very eye-catching. On the other hand, I don’t think it’s anything particularly special as it’s essentially just another silver glitter top coat. So if you already have a silver glitter, I wouldn’t bother with this one unless you’re already buying ยฃ6 worth of Barry M products. Even if you are, I’d recommend doing it in Superdrug as the Lilac Foil Effects are far more unique and I certainly haven’t seen anything quite like it before!

You may have noticed that my nails are once again shorter… this is because tomorrow I have a practical exam and they like everything to be clinical and pristine, which means nails must be short and bare for infection control. Which makes me a tad sad, but at least my nails will be nice and strong and I can work on growing out these stains! I am very nervous about tomorrow by the way. Eep.

Hope you are all doing well, it’s getting so close to Christmas and I am ridiculously excited by this ๐Ÿ˜€ย have you entered myย giveaway?

OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air

It’s green, it’s glittery, what’s not to love?! This was another of my ASOS purchases… the first being Rainbow Connection.

I know there’s been a lot of controversy on the blogosphere about OPI releasing too many glitters in the Muppets Collection, and that the glitters released do not give opaque-enough coverage on the nail. Well personally, I love it that way ๐Ÿ˜› Layering ahoy!

I’m getting more and more glitter-crazed by the day… what are your thoughts on the matter?

These pictures show two coats of Fresh Frog of Bel Air, layered over Rimmel Forest. Isn’t the last photo stunning? It shows the way my nails looked in bright artificial light (e.g. Tesco) and what I can only presume they would look like in sunlight, only we don’t have ANY! The rest of the photos show how they looked in natural light.

I don’t think that this polish can easily be worn alone as an opaque polish… it would take quite a few coats! I can assure you that it looks incredible layered over black though, and I will try more combinations shortly ๐Ÿ˜€ The glitter is quite sparse. Over on Swatch and Learn there are some lovely pictures of Fresh Frog of Bel Air worn alone.

The polish dries very quickly, as with most glitters, which is so handy if you’re just topping up a tired manicure after a few days wear as you’re rushing out the door! I love these polishes for the nights where uni has exhausted me or I’m just snowed under with work and I don’t have time/energy to totally repaint my nails. The nice thing about layering it is that it doesn’t result in the polish being so thick on the nails that it just pings off whenever you put on a woollen cardi!

So what do you think my lovelies? I am madly in love with this polish, I’m so very happy with the Muppets glitters!

Before you go – have you entered my giveaway?

Rimmel London Forest

Hello lovelies!

I found this lovely green in Poundland, nearly a year ago now, for ยฃ1 – so keep your eyes out, they sometimes have some really lovely ones! My local Poundland now has a lot of ancient Sally Hansen Hard as Wraps polishes too, though most of them look separated out so I haven’t been tempted yet…!

The first two pictures shows what the polish looks like in sunlight and artificial light. The third picture shows the polish as it appears in grey, wet, windy British daylight!

Forest is basically a dark grey-green jellyish base, jam-packed with green shimmer.ย The polish is opaque in two coats, occasionally three but there’s not much in it. It dries really quick which is perfect for someone like me… I’m so impatient with waiting for my nails to dry! It has a weird, almost rubbery finish to it, as shown in the third picture, which I find quite awesome but I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea!

Personally I love this colour for Winter particularly, it’s so Christmassy and perfect for the cold Autumn/Winter months! I also used it as a base for a certain OPI Muppets polish ๐Ÿ˜‰ as you will see next post – the combination is perfect!

Sorry for the irregularity in my posting, I genuinely have so much going on right now with uni and basically getting enough sleep to survive the next day haha… early mornings are so not for me! I found out where my placement is, it’s commutable which is fab and so much cheaper for me. I’m really excited about it! Just have to hope I pass my practical exam in order to go on placement!

I hope you are all lovely and well ๐Ÿ™‚ have you entered my giveaway yet? I can’t believe it’s December already… only 17 days left til the giveaway, thinking I may have to extend it as only 3 people have entered so far! Haha.

Barry M Limited Edition Lilac Foil Effects

EDIT: If you think this polish is a little too harsh, too blue or too brushstrokey for your skin tone, have a look at this much softer substitute: Beauty Without Cruelty Heather Mist

EDIT #2: This polish is now available on the Barry M Website, and in Superdrug,ย sold atย ยฃ3.99.

Two things to mention before we press on! Firstly, thank you so much to Andy’s mum Gena for buying me this gorgeous nail polish! Secondly, I don’t know whether this is Superdrug exclusive but I get that impression (if Superdrug kept their site remotely user-friendly I’d be able to deduce for you but you know…) This polish is LIMITED EDITION, and FREE if you spend ยฃ6 or more on Barry M Nail Paints (this may include other Barry M products, I’m not sure ๐Ÿ™ sorry girlies!). Otherwise you can buy it alone for ยฃ3.99.

Gorgeous, right? It’s worth mentioning that:

  • The brush strokes really aren’t visible at all in person unless you have your nails about an inch from your eyes! – For some reason, my camera’s picked up a load of imperfections which really aren’t noticeable.
  • The polish isn’t quite as blue as the photos show, it’s a little more silvery-lilac, but that’s as close as I could get.

Application Tips:

You can pretty much get away with 1 coat. However, from what I’ve experienced, I’d recommend 2 very thin coats as the formula is a little thicker than other Barry M polishes and a thick coat will take a while to dry. Also, try to keep the brush strokes as straight as possible just to avoid any visible brush-stroking, just in case!

I found that the polish dried quickly, which was good, and has that kind of finish that doesn’t really look right with a topcoat ๐Ÿ˜› as I mentioned before, it is a little thick, but it’s not really a problem. I can’t really decide whether I’d deem this a pearl or a frost or a chrome finish, somewhere in between I think! Pearly frosty chromey lilac.

Nevertheless, the finish is really lovely, I wasn’t convinced by the silver foil effects Barry M has brought out recently and I know the gold will just look dreadful with my skin tone! But this lilac colour is so pretty, particularly lovely for little girls I think. Well, Christmas is coming up! ๐Ÿ˜€

I rather love the finish, so much so I now have my eye on China Glaze Metallic Muse in a rather severe way… must… resist!

If I was to give this polish a more interesting name, it would have to involve clouds – it’s just such a calming, relaxing colour!

What do you think of this one? Definitely worth it in my books, even if you get it free and hate it, you can use it for a Christmas present!

I’m getting a little stressed with lots of deadlines coming up at the moment, but I find out my placement details tomorrow so that’s rather exciting! Can’t wait to go Christmas shopping, I’m really getting into the Christmas mood now. Oh, and my mum bought me this lovely cherry-tree fairy light lamp for my bedside the other day – I love it!

Hope you are all doing well my lovelies, have you entered my 100 follower giveaway yet? There are some fab suggestions from two lovely ladies and I’m finding it very helpful finding out what you like or would like to see on my blog!

Let me know your thoughts on Lilac Foil!
