Flakie

One of my (blogging) New Year’s resolutions was to do at least 20 nail art posts this year – that’s just under 2 a month, and I have just realised that the end of January is fast approaching! I actually did this particular manicure about 2 weeks ago, but got distracted writing my 2014 Year in Review post and my  4 Year Blogiversary post – apologies! You will also notice that my nails are particularly short in this post – I had a low break over Christmas and decided to cut them all down and start over. Somehow that always feels so refreshing! (Anyone else?)

Anyway, I dug out some old nail vinyls that I haven’t used in a while, and decided to play around with them. I fancied something angular so out came the lightning shapes.

Hello! So you may have noticed… I’m on a bit of a Picture Polish kick!! It started with Aurora, and yesterday Illusionist, and now this one! 😛 These are all from the Limited Edition collection which is very, very limited!! I only bought three of the five, which I’m now regretting!

Of the three I bought, this one has the most subtle duochrome effect. But it’s still super pretty! I struggled a little to get the shift in the photos because it was pretty miserable today, grey and horrible! I did manage to get a few shots of it though :).

Hey lovelies! Yesterday I showed you Picture Polish Aurora, from the Limited Edition collection. Well today, I have another equally gorgeous nail varnish for you! I think (don’t hate me) I might… possibly… prefer this one!

This one also sold out very quickly on Rainbow Connection, within an hour or two, I believe! Not that I was there at that time – I bought mine the second they were available!!

I have done a few more photos than usual today, but I wanted to make sure I captured all the colour shifts.

Hello everyone! I have another polish from my one true indie love a nice indie brand called Hare! ‘Test Your Love!’ is from the Fall 2013 Coin Operation Collection. This collection has the coolest inspiration behind it – “the world of antique, coin-operated arcade and carnival games of yesteryear” in Nikole’s (the creator) own words. I just think that’s unbelievably cute, and quirky at the same time.

I am personally a massive fan of arcades and coin games, even the modern ones; I have a particular penchant for the coin pushers (I have a secret technique that ALWAYS gives around 80% return… yes I am that sad… yes I do count them… no I do not have a social life…)

Hey all 🙂 I’ve got a super super pretty flakie to show you! I’ve always loved flakies but lately I’ve started to feel like all the supposedly ‘new’ flakies are just reproductions of previous ones (for example, Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure, GOSH Rainbow, Color Club Snow Flakes, Nubar 2010, Essie Shine of the Times… etc.). Even the Zoya flakies weren’t altogether original, and the Nails Inc ones certainly weren’t. So I’m happy to report that Crystal Glaze is probably the most original one I’ve yet seen 🙂 with the possible exception of the (pricey and hard-to-get) Nfu-Ohs :).

As always, flakies are best used as a topper, especially over darker colours as the colours of the flakes will really pop against the dark background. I used 2 coats of the new Barry M Berry Cosmo as my ‘underwear’ :).
